Map editing (esp new sea zones and ports!)

Post by Maddoc06 »

I've been working on modding the 1939 scenario, particularly focussing on the Mediterranean. I want to add a port to Crete and create an Agean sea-zone. I find some of the Polish in the .csv files difficult to mod though I can work some of it out. I've added the port city of Iraklion in Crete but have enormous difficulty trying to create the sea zone, link it it to the new city or modify any of the terrains (I want to put some mountains and convert a few sea and land hexes into each other). There appears to be a Polish map editor without any obvious functionality to me. I've discovered a modding manual in Polish for this game (presumably by the creator) on http://www.me262.home.pl/PUB/ww2-usersmanual.pdf BUT ALAS IT IS IN POLISH! It appears to be detailed enough.

Does anyone have an English version?

Does anyone have a map editor or know how to create and link up new sea zones and create functional ports?[&:]

Check this thread (from page 2) and you might get a few answers in it from Comrade. Creating the city and the port seems to be easy. I doubt very much if you will be able to create a new sea zone as this may be hard coded. It would be a nice idea though if players could add in sea zones. Add it to the wish list if its not possible?

Thanks Ian

I'd already worked out most of the changes suggested by Comrade in his post. I can see my city in Edytor Grafu Miast.exe but I can't work out how to use it. It certainly reflects changes which I make manually in cities_diagram.csv and polaczenia.csv files but it doesn't appear to do anything the other way around. I've also manually added the port city I've created to sea_nodes.csv and linked it to the sea zone by manually adding a connection to sea_edges.csv.

So, though I can see my port city in the game, and though it is present and connected to other ports in the Edytor Grafu Miast.exe, it doesn't show up in the 'fleets' management view during the game and I can't embark or disembark troops through it.

The Polish language modding instructions at
http://www.me262.home.pl/PUB/
appear to have disappeared but I did download it yesterday and can probably send it to anyone who reads polish and wants to translate it for us modders![&:]

EdytorGrafuMiast.exe is not necessary to succesfully add a port. It allows editing a graph used ONLY by the AI. If it's a single port on an island - you even don't have to bother with editing this AI graph.

The reason why you can't see the port in fleet screen might be you didn't set the bitmapX and bitmapY columns in seaNode.csv or set them incorrectly. Make sure these coordinates are set correctly, these are coords from data\gfx\europe.png bitmap file.

Thanks Comrade

Unfortunately, I've already checked the bitmap coordinates from the data\gfx\europe.png bitmap file and they appear OK.
Must admit I've reached an impasse.

I wonder what steps were taken to add a port (Valetta) in Malta in the beta 1.2 patch?

It's hard to tell where the problem is without seeing all the files. Could you send me the whole modified scenario ? I'll have a look.

I've managed to add ports to various Islands in the Agean and get them to work on the Fleets Management screen.

This is the error I had made:
I had started my new scenario by copying the 1939 folder. However, I had neglected to match the name of my new scenario to the name of the scenario in 'misc.csv'! A simple adjustment to that text and the port cities worked!

Has anyone figured out how to make new sea zones?
