From unnamed sources in the British embassy in Oslo we received this: Photos of Joseph Stalin's recent speech on the Red Square in Moscow reveal an interesting group of individuals with him on the podium. Members of the Politburo were completely absent. In their place appear a coterie of known military leaders. Prominent among them was General Gardner. Speculation is that an upheaval within the Soviet leadership has brought a group of anti-communist Russian traditionslists to power, leaving Mr. Stalin as a mere figurehead.

In substantiation of this intelligence, neither Mr. Stalin nor any other member of the Communist Party heirarchy has been heard from since that speech.

Dateline Moscow

With rumors spreading like wildfire of a military coup d'etat against the Communist Regime, General Gardner today held a press conference in the Kremlin.

Among the items the General revealed:

The recent denunciations by the Western Allies of Soviet/Axis connivance are well-founded. The General Staff just recently learned of the full extent of the communist leadership's perfidy in concluding a SECOND secret treaty with the Germans. Apparently the Soviet and German dictators were all too ready to agree on a proposal that Stalin sent to Berlin January '42:

Consider this:

Since the capitalist countries have joined in alliance against you, with the US entering the war, and the British in Italy, and your Eastern Front under pressure, I propose we agree to peace between Germany and Italy, as the Axis, and the USSR. To guarantee that peace, the following terms are acceptable to me:

1) You must withdraw all German and Italian forces from Poland (prewar borders, but you may keep Danzig), Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania;

2) You must cease all support for the above countries;

3) You must cease all support for Finland, both militarily and in supplies;

4) You must not support Turkey, at any future time, against the interests of the Soviet Union.

5) You must agree that all of the above countries are now in the Commintern sphere of interest, and will go under control of same. The Red Army will occuppy all of the above countries.

6) As guarantee of the peace, the Soviet Union will agree to convoy PPs to you monthly, starting at 100 PPs. If you fail to push the British out of Italy within 1 year of agreeing to this, then that PP convoy will reduce to 50 a month. The convoys will cease completely if any of the above are not honored by you.


General Gardner states that the entire General Staff were outraged upon learning of this perfidious agreement, as the Allied powers term it. The General Staff have removed the communist party leadership from any further influence in Russian policy, and completely renounce the said perfidious agreement.

On a personal note from General Gardner, he further states that although he is deeply wounded by the request, he and his fellow military leaders will of course honor the request by the Western Allies that they no longer read any Western Allied military reports.

Well well, my oh my, I wonder what mr. Churchill has to say about this. A cease fire between the Axis and the Kremlin, and Stalin promises to support the German (!) war effort? I'm speechless. [;)]

19430216 (redux) : There is a mistake here, involving dual turns. Tis is supposed to be prevented, but it has happened. Here is what I sent Gary about this turn :

The turn {Edleweiss75} sent me is an Axis turn for Feb.16, 1943. I already received one, and posted the snap to my AAR. The units are not quite right, as if he took his 2/1/1943 file from you and did the "new" 2/16/1943 again. It is not going to be a "good" turn for him, and the first one was not either. I do not know quite how to handle it. Any ideas?

I went ahead and played it again. He is not much better or worse off, and I am afraid it would be too confusing to try it again.
