19411016 : We make progress, taking Tallin, and besieging Veliki Luki, but with winter coming the Staff is very worried about powerful concentrations of enemy units . In Gomel there is a very powerful Armored Corps, for example. We must stiffen our lines for the enemies winter offensive.

19401101 : We are looking ahead to winter now. We capture Veliki Luki and strengthen our lines. We are making quiet progress over the mountains from Turkey.

19401201 : I wanted to deploy the Soviet units from the East, but really did not know what to do, so I decided to let the AI have its way. It would not have had a lot of points anyway, and it seemed to build a fair number of units.

19420101 : We took the enemy blows this month, but the winter weather hurts. Good news from North Africa.

19420201 : Now this is the Russian winter, along with partisan activity, and a poor decision on our part to mount only a minor operation. We had many units at a nominal "0" strength, but we attacked successfully with them in some cases. We reduced and chopped the pockets, and we pulled back from territory we will quickly recapture in Spring. We have not abandoned any cities.

Some notes on this campaign, and the end of this AAR : I began the Spring campaign and quickly surounded the Red Army forces in the Caucasus, took Moscow and destroyed all units near the capital, took Orel, and decided that the very powerful Axis forces could not be held back.  It must be remembered that the Axis was extremely strong, so much so that I doubted the Soviets had any chance.  They played very well and regained some ground during the long winter, but their day is done, and nothing in this game can save them.  The length of this game is now set by the distance in hexes between the advanced Axis units and their objectives.

The mod is well worth trying, but this was an Axis force that was just too strong.
