What is the status of H3:ANW?

Post by EagleMountainDK »

I have as of today had my first MP games ever in H3ANW, and beside some strange server crashes and some bugs like the reloading, skewed range circles, units that I have orders to use passive mode engaged active, I really had some great games.

But these forums is a silent as the grave, so is there still work going on behind the scenes or isn't H3ANW a civillian succes? I mean how many active players are there out there?

Even the official post about posting errors is outdated (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1160462)

I don't know anything about the history behind all the different people and db's and I really don't care. I just want to play H3ANW that works smooth and mayby some day a new UI will come by where one can use the mouse wheel and not double clicking (more like quad clicking) to close a window.

Cheers
Mark

Mark yes there's lot's of work going on. You've passingly mentioned "civilian vs military" client base and that's an issue right there. Then we have the fragmentation within the harpoon community due to the battle for "world dominance" - the Harpoon world that is.

There are currently three projects being worked on by the Dev team. the Professional product, the civilian version and another version that I can't say much about as yet. Changes in the professional product are rolled back into the version you have. Unfortunately AGSI relies on generating development capital from Pro/military sales. Modern and for that matter any naval wargaming is hardly a mass market hobby. Therein lies the catch. Without the Dev team being switched to Pro work and back to ANW work we wouldn't even have what we have now with H3 ANW.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Australian tax payers for their support of H3's development [;)] The product you hold is the result of the foresight shown by Robert Carpenter of the Australian Defence Dept, who saw fit to gain the funding required to get the product to where it is today. Without these types of contracts AGSI would simply be unable to maintain very little in the way of continued development.

We are currently testing the next release and will be deciding on implementing some community contributed feature requests. For 3.8.1 we've monitored this forum and immediately looked at issues reported by users. Some of you may have noticed dual-speed torpedoes not functioning correctly or running short of fuel, that's fixed for 3.8.1.

There's not a lot of development talk here, AGSI maintains it's own internal communications systems. This forum is the main community forum provided by the game's distributor. So any periods of silence are the result of either, a) User/community apathy or b) The fragmentation situation, where individual DB authors have their own extensive sites with forum support etc and as such the "Official" forum here at Matrix Games suffers.

Dale Hillier, AGSI's official representative at Matrix Games is currently away, at sea and as such the flow of information from official sources will seemed to have slowed. I will attempt to keep people up to date when I can and answer any questions. I am not however an official AGSI rep and as such I'm simply expressing an opinion nothing I say is Gospel.

Mark, if you really want to see some traffic post your own observations or error reports. If you think you've found a bug, let me know I have bug reporting status on the AGSI system so I'd be happy to submit your issues once we've confirmed them.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Thanx for the answer Darren, I will first make sure that none of the things I have found is reported here at Matrix and then fire away [;)]
