Long term

Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge is a turn-based strategy that puts you command of a squad of specialists for hire in the genre’s biggest game-world yet: the African country Diamond Coast. Diamond Coast is a playground for the cruel and corrupt, each with their own agenda. Choose your friends wisely and buy an army of ruthless mercenaries to unleash mayhem on your foes. Choose “jobs” from different factions and complete them for cash to upgrade your weapons and hire more elite soldiers of fortune.

How is this game for long term play or is it a 20 hour game and your done with it. I don't really want to waste my money on a short term thing.[;)]

I'm not sure, but I spent about six hours yesterday playing it, and I'm still working on winning the first sector! At this rate, I should finish the game in, oh...2010. [:'(]

Definitely over 20 hours long.... some sectors take hours to do just in tactical mode, and then you got other stuff to take care of with merc/equipment management all the time too. I'm probably still not half way done with the game and have been playing it for 2 days.

I think it is worth it, with patches and mods, coming down the road, I think it is going also have replayablies

I may sound like I been complaining, but I like it (I tend to complain more when I like something and think it could be better, then if I think it is bad)

Same here, I may be complaining a bit myself but that's only because it's so close to being really good it's disappointing.  I think with some patches and hopefully mods that this game will be superb.  It's a really long game too as it can take a long time to clear a sector.  Don't expect to sit down in 20 hours and get it done.

I echo Sarge's and Joram's sentiments. This game is enjoyable (minor frustrations aside), and is a fun way to while away the hours. It really has the potential to become great successor to JA with some polishing (better translation, and refining a few game mechanics). If a strong and competent modding community (which would most likely come from JA2's community) arises that can make new missions/areas, that would just be awesome in terms of replayability.

The game'll be worth it if a patch comes out that takes care of the worst issues, I think at this stage I'd advise waiting for it.

I don't, I'm having lots of fun with it even if it isn't every man's true sequel to JA2. Sure, some things need to be changed or made optional to please every one but it is still worth playing as it is. Just because a game is heavily inspired by another game (JA2) it doesn't mean it has to play exactly the same and nor should it. If I wanted an exact duplicate of JA2 I would just play that instead.

Plus you can play it on easy mode, then go back and play it on the harder modes once you know what you're doing. I figure I played through JA2 five complete times over the years. This one is going to be a keeper, even though there are a few annoyances that I'd love to see fixed.

Haven't played much yet since the game refuses to run on my notebook and so I can only play if I have the desktop nearby...

But still, I've managed to play trough day 1 and conquered the starting sector (bought a pass and killed all the Marauders gang), then conquered the Roadblock, then the Dam then the Safari and for last the North Base.

Hired Guns is really lacking very much if compared to JA2, it feels like a very unfinished game but with all the ingrediants to have been an awsome JA successor, it's really a shame...
But still, it is without any doubt the only game that offered me the JA feeling since JA2 and it's still very fun and ejoyable.

I played Brigade E5 and for me it sucked because the background management lacks compared to JA and especially because I hate Smart Pause system, for me it must be true turn-based.
Already tried 7.62mm with English Mod and although much better than E5 it still uses SPM so it ain't for me.
Silent Storm was nice to play tactic wise, but it totally misses the JA merc and sector management which are essential features for me.

Bad thing is Hired Guns is bugged and incomplete... but it still is the closest we got to JA since JA2...
Good thing is it is fun to play, hard, has several diferent possible approaches, and it's totally modable, so I'm certainly going to finish it more than once.
Estimating from the time it takes to finish each sector and manage everything in between fights, I would say you have several months of pleasent gameplay unless you play 24/7 :)

All that matters is I'm enjoying the game very much, so for me it was definitly worth buying.

Game itself is 6/10 with loads of potential for modding and with some patches it can easily get to 8/10.
