Post by kennedyy »

I just bought this game today and it doesn't work. I installed it and everything but when I press play all I get is some message in Russian that says something about "JAZZ project exception" Can someone tell me the steps to solve this?

It looks like your integrated video card doesn't support DirectX 9.0c. Most integrated video chipsets do not have adequate DirectX 9.0c support as they are primarily intended for software other than games. It would have to be below the minimum system requirements to generate an error like that. The only advice I can give is to try a program like 3D Analyzer, which may be able to emulate the required video functionality and allow the game to work without a video card upgrade.

When I downloaded it it said that directx 9 was installed sucessfully. If that doesn't work how do I get a 3d analyzer or other options?

That's no indication as to whether your video card fully supports it, or not. It was almost certainly already installed, anyway.

Google for 3D analyzer.  It seems to be freeware and available in many sites.

I've tried but so far it requires me to buy the program or it's spam or a virus so I was wondering if anyone knew a direct web adress for a download.

I'm not a programmer or an expert on HLSL language but ...

I looked at dxdiag file that was posted here and I googled the Chip type: Intel(R) GMA 3100 ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA

What caught my eye was this ... The 3D core is very similar to the older GMA 3000, including the lack of hardware accelerated vertex shaders.

Now GMA 3000 supports shader v2.0 and some of the games FX files compile in v2.0, however, since the vertx shaders being compiled rely on hardware then this is probably the reason why it won't run.

So ... what can be done?
1) I dunno, you'll need a stand alone graphics card?
2) Perhaps the vertex shaders can be compiled using the _sw switch ??

Best to let an expert handle this but here's an example of what I'm talking about ...

... VertexShader = compile vs_2_0 VS_Quad();

What if they were changed to read ...

... VertexShader = compile vs_2_sw VertexShader()

The FX files are located in the HIREDGUNS/SHADERS folder.

Anyway ... it's better to get a newer stand alone card ... if indeed this is a shader problem ... I can't image someone recompiling the technique to suite an individuals problem ...

I don't understand the whole thing completely but I thought I'd mention it ... if it helps.

Also .... since the game crashes when PLAY is clicked ...

Could something in his systemCFG file with regards to display settings be set to lower values (or turned off)?

I mean ... this could give him a fighting chance ... Who knows, maybe he can't run the intro or the movies or whatever.

Sorry to bud in,
Rob

Have you tried running the game in administrator mode?  This clears up some issues with Vista for many of my programs.  It is worth a try.

The game installs the DirectX software, but if your hardware doesn't support it fully then the game won't work. This is why it's important to be aware of what hardware you have and check the minimum requirements. As far as 3D Analyzer, others have reported that it's having issues working with the serial system. We're going to investigate that once we return from the holidays. In the meantime, if you want to experiment you can download a copy here:
