Formation problem.

Post by Amono »

Hi,

Having problems with ASW ring ship behaviour. When I have assigned ship to it's position it goes flank and heads to assigned sector. After reaching position ship drops it's speed to 5kts and starts listening but after awhile instead sprinting to new listening position it changes speed to match main body speed and just keeps it position? Game version is 2010.005

Otherwise I'm having great time with this product.

Just to be clear about which formation ring you are talking about, is your ship in the ring where the Yellow zone is shown?

Yes the ship is in the yellow zone and I'm sure it's the asw ring and is going at 14 kts as is the main body. I've expanded the asw ring so it covers now 10nm to 20nm.

2010.005 is a beta build and such should be handled in the HarpGamer HC beta forums but there shouldn't be any recent changes that would make this behavior happen. Can you perhaps send a saved game showing the behavior to hc3@harpgamer.com (preferably zipped)? Thank you

Can you elaborate on what ship was in the ASW ring and which ship(s) were in the centre / other positions?

Received with thanks. We will have a look at it in short order. If you're not already an HG member, please sign up and we can deal with this beta build issue there. [:)]

Just ran your savegame, and I can confirm that your Type 23 frigate Iron Duke appears to be tooling along at 14 kt continuously, along with the other rest of the ships in the formation, and that the Type 23 is indeed in the ASW ring of the formation. Thanks for raising this (though as Tony stated, HarpGamer is the place for beta build issues); we can now look at the issue in detail.

The ship in the ASW ring is a Type 23 Duke, a Type 42C is in the main body and a Horizon(CNGF) is in one of the AAW ring sectors. Also 2 Lynx HMA 8's is patrolling in the picket ring.

Gotta love formation keeping, pile this along with the ones Herman documented though I'm not sure if there is a direct correlation betweeen Herman's documented findings and this instance or not.

I attempted the standard work-around of bringing the Type-23 into the main body of the formation, closing the formation editor, then putting the Type-23 back into ASW ring. It raced to the ring, then drifted once, then resumed cruise speed of formation, definitely something amiss.

Re-created your situation and confirm that it also happens in the Official releases.

Good catch, Amono. [8D]
