It is that time again; time for Pooner voting. This year we induct an individual Pooner and a lifetime Pooner.

See past winners at http://www.harpoonpages.com/pooner2009.htm

Vote by replying to this topic and stating your vote. Please only vote at one forum.

What is a Pooner?

A person who gives of their time, talents, and riches to the Harpoon community.

An award given yearly to recognize the efforts of the above.

The lifetime Pooner award recognizes extraordinary effort over a number of years. These individuals represent current and former pillars of Harpoon.

The yearly Pooner award recognizes extraordinary effort often within (but not restricted
to) a single 12 month period.

Rules:
One individual and one lifetime Pooner vote per voter.
Only votes for individuals will be counted, no groups.
I'll tally the votes the first week of January and declare a victor.

Places where votes are accepted:
HarpGamer
HULL mailing list
Matrix Games Harpoon forums
SubSim Classic Subsims forum

Past Lifetime Winners (ineligible to win again for lifetime):

Votes for me, Tony Eischens, won't be counted since I'm running the voting and there is enough trouble avoiding flame wars the way it is.

Please do take the time to vote, even if you are pretty new to the game. Bonus points if you expound upon how great your choices for the 2010 Pooners are and why!

Having read the comments here and on HarpGamer over the past week regarding nominations for the 2010 Pooner awards, and mulled them over, I have to admit that I am finding very difficult to disagree with Tony's assessment.

While there are probably several worthwhile candidates this year (and that's a very good thing!), I think I will have to likewise nominate:

Jon Reimer for the Lifetime award

Jon is deserving of this recognition because, as Tony has pointed out, his work made it possible for the community as a whole to build, edit and continuously improve the databases in which the Harpoon computer simulations have their foundation. Notably, this includes both the Harpoon 2/3/ANW and HC/HCG/HCE blood lines, a remarkable thing and something especially worthy of recognition. Without Jon's efforts, my own contributions (and obsessions!) with this sim would be very different and somehow, I have to think, much less enjoyable. A pillar of the Harpoon community like Jon Reimer definitely deserves the Lifetime award.

Don Thomas for the Individual award

While there are a number of folks who regularly contribute to HC/HCE in the way of beta testing, scenario writing, etc, Don seems to stand out when I look back over this past year. Beta testing work, in particular, can be a tedious and largely thankless job, but it is a critical piece of the puzzle and without it this sim could not possibly move forward. Again, as Tony said, Don seemed to be there at just the right times when other folks (myself included) had too much on their plate. And, on top of that, the guy writes scenarios and shares them so that we can all enjoy them. Outstanding.

WTG, Jon and Don! Regardless of whether you win (and I hope you do!), your contributions are very much appreciated.
