Strategic tankers and Platform DB editor

Post by Upsman »

Just purchase CE and have two questions

I try to open Platform database editor and cannot get any program to open it but I can purchase MC Access which it says will open it, are there any alternatives.

Second when I launch stratigic tankers or ferry or patro missions with or without other aircraft the game engine has a nonexecutable error everytime, but it will allow me to launch as attack mission. The scenerios were in both westpac and 2003 scenerios and i have downloaded the 2008 download to same effect. Anyway to cure this problem?

You don't have to buy Office or Access, just install the Access 97 runtimes, and you will be able to open the plaftorm editor.
They are included with HCE, and you have a shortcut to them in your entry for HCE in the start folder, or you can go direclty to your install and double click on hce_art.exe

Are you sure you've applied the 2008.024 patch? The error you're describing sounds very much like a bug that existed before that patch.

Before hand would like to say I appreciate responses to my questions. I believe I have the download . I notice the problem in blockers in the EC2003 GIUK battleset. I cannot send the midas on a patrol alone or with escorts. The program just stops working. This does not occur when i send them on ferry or attack missions. Also since the download I now have four EC2000 and four EC2003 battlesets. I am still not able to open the Platform editor, it ask what program to open it and none i have currently work. I looked for the files noxious instructed but cannot find them. Again I would like to say I appreciate your help. Not sure if this matters but I am running windows home vista premium.

In your HCE directory there is a program called hce_art.exe, right-click that and choose "Run as administrator" to install the MS Access 97 runtime. Once that is all installed and happy you'll need to make yourself a new shortcut.

To make the shortcut on the desktop:
1. Right-click a blank spot on the desktop
2. Choose New then Shortcut
3. Browse for the target of the shortcut, in a default installation it will be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe"
4. Click Next
5. Give it a nice name like "HC Platform Editor"
6. Right-click your shiny new shortcut and choose Properties
7. After the contents of Target we need to append the pathname and filename of your platform editor. By default the whole target will read
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe" "C:\Matrix Games\HCE\pfBuild2005.mdb"
8. Click Advanced
9. Put a check mark in the "Run as administrator" box.
10. Click OK and OK
11. Try the shortcut, once you placate Vista that this really doesn't pose a security threat, the platform editor should run.
12. Move the shortcut wherever you really want it.

Sorry about the wacky configuration, Vista + Access 97 runtime isn't too fun to set up as you see.
