Does anyone have any copies of Waypoint magazine?

Post by Easy301 »

I posted this in the old forum before seeing the stickied post directing people here!

Hi ladies and Gents,

This forum seems kind of dead so it's a long shot but I thought I'd ask.

I've been heavily interested in the history of wargaming recently and the legacy that was Harpoon. On the CMO page there are links to a page about a publication called Waypoint Magazine. https://command.matrixgames.com/?page_id=484

The link lists some articles for the magazine and seems to have a list of issues available for download, unfortunately all the links are for HHQ so they are dead.

Does anyone have these preserved that they'd be able to share with me or a working link?

Thank you.

I suggest asking Dimitris https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/memb ... e&u=100913

He is one of the creators of Command and formerly of the HarpoonHQ. Surely one of them has the whole set handy. Post back if you don't get what you need, I'm sure tens if not hundreds of players here have the whole set of Waypoint Magazines.

Thanks a ton, I'll go ahead and reach out and ask him.

I've started playing CMO recently and have fallen in love with both the platform and wargaming in general. I do have some very light experience with Harpoon 2 on the mac in the early 90s, but I've been thinking about jumping back into it, if not just to try some of the awesome community content that's out there. There're some pretty well-regarded Harpoon scenarios that sound incredibly interesting that will most likely never see the light of day in CMO. I think it would complement my CMO set-up pretty well to have a working Harpoon install. I would then have access to both platforms and an a very large library of scenarios.

These forums seem pretty dead for Harpoon, and I honestly have a lot of questions on where to begin. It seems pretty daunting to jump into Harpoon with the various versions and databases, etc. I'd love to give it a shot sometime soon but really need some direction on how best to proceed. Is there a more active forum or community when it comes to the Harpoon series? The more I research on how to get up and running on my own the more questions I have. It's absolutely not something I want to jump into without having at least a few points of contact should I run into any issues.

I'm specifically looking for and hoping I can get help sometime soon from a kind soul in setting up an install of Harpoon where I can play some of the scenarios I've always heard about and have been eager to play, such as those by Klaus Behrmann and Stephen M. LeBlanc. I'd be ecstatic, so happy, I really would be, if it was possible to do that these days.

Thank you for your time!

Edit: I got the issues from Dimitris, I glanced through them and there's some amazing articles in here! I'm incredibly excited to start reading these tonight.

https://harpgamer.com is the place to be for the Harpoon 1/Classic series of games. There isn't much activity on the Harpoon 2/3 side where Klaus was a known for his larger scenarios.

I'm not aware of any active Harpoon 3 forums but there is still some interest out there. Hopefully you'll get some direct messages.

You can download the PDFs from here. If it's ok with the rights holder I can add these to my gaming goodies page on my web site as well.
