Ideas for Space Race

Post by CV60 »

Here are a couple of ideas for the US/Soviet space race scenario:

Ideas
1. Deduct 100-200 prestige points for USA for starting the Redstone/Atlas/Jupiter/Juno missile before Soviets launch Sputnik, due to it being a military missile (recreating Eisenhower's reluctance to use military missiles in the space program)
2. Deduct 700 points for Soviets not having at least two rocket programs open after 1965 (simulate conflict between Korolev and Glushko over engine design philosophy and the lack of unified effort in the Soviet space program)

Another idea-Give the Soviets bonus points for achievements done in 3rd quarter of every year. This is to simulate the importance placed in the Soviet program on flights timed to celebrate the October Revolution, such as was done with Sputnik 2 and Zond.

Yet another idea: Add the proposed Vostok 11 EVA to the Vostok mission set. Gives the Soviet player more options on strategies to leap ahead of Gemini (albeit at considerable risk)

Another idea-After the primary mission of a probe is completed, allow players to elect to continue operating it, keeping flight controllers on duty, with a chance to get a minor additional amount of prestige points. This would simulate the attempted repurposing probes (such as Mariner 5) for scientific observations after their primary objectives have been met. Of course, there would be the chance of probe failure, but I would not include any loss of prestige after the accomplishment of the primary mission.

Hello Czert,

You'll have 3 campaigns, each featuring 3 difficulty levels :

- GSA (race against the clock)
- USSR vs NASA CPU (competitive)
- NASA vs USSR CPU (competitive)

Plus the online PBEM mode, that allows to pick any of the 3 agencies. [:)]

Have fun ! [8D]

Nice, that moved it to category "most like to buy" from "interesingly looking game with theme i love" for just GSA campaign.
It is somewhere vidos with us/ussr campaigns ? I found only gsa ones.

The race to the Moon campaigns have been rolled out fairly recently, but there's some videos covering them in Sebastian's youtube channel already.

and now it commed to my mind - will have certain buildings time restiction ? like us vab (vertical assemby building) which did have advantages over horizontal assemby , which comed later in us space programe, but which soviets used from beginning.
and for astronauts - will be here limits to genders ? for certain time, astronats were"mens only" (some are saying dicks only) club. Will it apply to gsa too ?
and for animations - some look realy good, while others, well...look very artifical, and confusing at same time, since it is not very clear what text/animation means (e.q. same anim for 2-3 different texts, i take it as it can be due to betastage of game).
and for animation in general - they look ok, but will they look better in final game ? dont take it bad, quality is good, but i realy lack feel from them.
Mayby (ok surely) it is because i played old game, and these videos did have massive feel, despite poor quality.

from looking to vidoes of us/usssr race:
i noticed that you got at start of turn invo that "enemy" did this and that, but it was not clear if they are ahead or behind you with this.
on baris you did have kgb/cia headqaters in which you can see what they have complete, thier progress..etc - is something similiar there ? especialy compring of r&d progress was very informative and easy to find :).
and do scintist/crew improve thier skill when they on prgrams, or only when training ?
