Minor bug or am i missing something ?

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

Seems like the cargo hold upgrades don't work. Had a merchant who got the extra space one and my ship went from 112 spaces to 112 spaces, more recently a pirate with the extra shields had no effect on ship description and seemed no differant to regular shields in combat.

any ideas ?

What kind of ship? What´s the exact title of the upgrade? I´ve just checked the cargo management upgrade for an Avenger ship and it works there.

I have also seen the cargo upgrades not work right. I had a crusier with the extra shield cargo that did not work when a battleship obliterated me.

Also when you get promoted and gain a combat bounus I have had a problem with the dispay showing the Non combat headdings but have the correct upgrades to select.

1st one was the federation starwolf fighter with the non combat skills extra cargo space +25%. maybe it doesnt work with the non combat skill ??

2nd was the Syndicate Sabre fighter and shield increase cargo bay , nada.

I dont have saves for either as i have progressed to corvettes for both games now and I use the same save slot for each game type.

If i see it happeneing to any more ships I'll post save games in the tech forum about it.

The cargo upgrade, Auxiliary Shield Unit, is supposed to give you stronger shields at the expense of cargo space. It does not do that. You get less cargo space for sure as stated, but no stronger shields.

I tested on normal and veteran. It takes the same fire power damage to be destroyed by the enemy. Completly not working, at least for the several fighters trader class I tested.

I notice it takes about 25% more damage to destroy a ship normally than the shield info states, maybe that is some kind of armor buff. This is whether you have the upgrade cargo shield or vanilla cargo space upgrade by default when you start a game or not.

The Battleship emergency shield boost engine upgrade does not seem to work either.

Combat evasion upgrade. Is that 10% less encounters from hostiles when travelling, or a 10% to not get hit bonus when in tactical combat? The wording is poor.

It would be nice for the upgraded stats for your ship to be reflected in the ship over  view screen so you know that it is working.

The trade screen will not slide off the combat window (just flips solid right or left covering over half the planets in screen) hiding trade information. It does not move incremently like was stated off to the side. Resolution is 1024*768.

Great game, love the dynamic campaign idea, just wanted to report and confirm potential bugs.

I did to me too in the demo game.

Regular matrix game, makes the trade screen moveable and is much more friendly than the demo ? are you playing the Matrix one or the demo ? makes a differance.

As per the shield and ships upgrades i also think they should be displayed on the ship info screen. Looks like the shield upgrades at least arent working as advertised. I 'assume' combat evasion is a 10% penalty to both ships in combat and has no effect when travelling, however i am basing that on a guess not accurate information.

Your right. There is a NEW demo from MATRIX. I am using an old demo I got off another website. The new version demo does have a fully moveable trade screen window.

It would be nice to a have a clear version number somewhere on the screen.

Other bugs may have been fixed. I need to test that "Auxiliary Shield Unit" cargo upgrade and see if it is working as stated inside the game and limited manual. It gives 300 turns, but that is enough.

In fact, the old forum is gone!  I assume the demo is the exact same as the recently released version? Or has it been patched? I wish there was a version number to know. Many of the bugs may have been fixed, or new ones introduced.

I do like the dynamic campaign idea. That way, it does not get boring.  Plus maybe some more equipment variety and upgrades would be nice.

As the demo came out after the matrix release i assume that the matrix demo is upto date version wise. moveable windows help a LOT [;)]

Look forward to hearing back about the tests. since i got dragon age (RPG) all else has been on hold , even WItP AE !!! .. superb game but i doubt it'll stay as long on my HD as smugglers or AE .. smugglers i like to have a quick 1/2 hour bash when im bored and AE when i want to torture myself and lose hours/days of my life [;)]

Official demo released a week ago.

So far, I tested the Federation Avenger and Starwolf (the little fighters). The Shield Cargo upgrade claims to give it stronger shields in the upgrade area description, but once installed, that specialty description is gone. It does decrease total cargo space.

The total damage taken before ship explodes, either from gun fire or missle, was claimed as 100 or 140 for each fighter printed in game displayed.

In realilty, they absorbed about 160 to 210 before exploding respectively. That could be the bonus you get for the first 200 turns that was mentioned in the manual. The enemy ship also have this roughly 33% pading.

I could not tell any difference between having the Auxiliary Shield Unit installed or not. The data has a random factor of about 10%, over about ten trials, I could not see that the shield unit is working as it is stated.

It takes the same hits to destroy the ship whether it is installed or not. The margin of error is around 10%, so if it is working, it must be less than 10% or 10 to 15 shield unit points.
