My 2 cents on smugglers

Smugglers IV - Doomsday is a fun and challenging turn-based space-trading game where you take command of an advanced space ship amidst a galaxy torn by war and crime! With your ship and skilled crew you can choose to be a greedy trader, ambitious bounty hunter, ruthless pirate, or one of the other professions in your quest for riches, fame, and power! Through trading, fulfilling missions, or pirating, you can earn the money and skills necessary to buy new ships and upgrade your equipment. As success brings larger ships, missions, and enemies, you'll have to manage a crew, board & plunder enemy ships, and even conquer star systems.

My 2 cents on smugglers

Post by Misconduct »

So I played the demo and decided the game was worth buying, so I went and got it yesterday. My reaction is mixed, going back to days on the bulletin board playing Tradewars 2002 Smugglers IV seemed promising to bring back those memories. The graphics are rather outdated, however the gameplay is much more promising. Although you get to choose if you want to be a pirate or trader, however the biggest let down was the combat and repetitive missions. Also practically all the weapons are the same for every ship, with some allowing one weapon the other doesn't. I think Smugglers IV would be extremely promising if and when mods come out to improve some of the basic gameplay. Simple things like instead of having only 4 Lasers/missiles/engines etc to choose from - add either more classes of ships or more inventory for items, instead of only 4 lasers to choose from maybe go with 6 or so.

I do believe the pirates should have a home world and sector, perhaps in the middle of the game. Perhaps add them as the "expert player" since being a real pirate would be extremely hard in game.

In all the game is worth $30 I paid for it, I can only hope mods will come out for example Star Trek series or even Tradewars 2002

Hi, thanks for your feedback. What would the the pirate home world and sector be for? What would you like the player to do there?

Pirate homeworld sector would be for basically a place where Pirates hang out, and basically if you choose the Pirates "path" in the game you'd have access to the base for possible weapon upgrades and items for sell. However if your not a Pirate and go in the sector, you would probably be more frequently attacked, and of course you can't land on the pirate homeworld. And if your a pirate, basically you have the option to bounty, or smuggle items to other outposts, but being an expert mode - you know going through for example "Federation" territory to run illegal items to a pirate outpost, you'd be attacked by military. So Pirates would be the hardest race to play since 1 sector has very limited options, mostly being attacked often from other races.

I like the pirate ideas Misconduct has, but to repeat something earlier I wrote, in general more options in any and all areas would be good.  The more variety the better.  More of all types of variety.
