Capturing Resource systems

Post by genehaynes »

Question: After successfully raiding a system and destroying an opponents freighter ( during war time ) the system goes into turmoil as stated in the manual.

After the period of turmiol, how do you capture the system? The manual ( Wartime Raids on resource systems) says the system becomes available for ownership by any player after the turmoil is over, but it doesn't exactly tell you how to do this.

Do you use the "explore star system mission"? Or do you manually sent a freighter to the system after the turmoil is over? or is there something else I must do?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Stars coming out of turmoil

Post by EricLarsen »

genehaynes,
When stars are in turmoil they first start out as squares with the red cross inside, then migrate to circles with the red cross inside and when they finally come out of turmoil they show up as regular white circles. That's when you need to jump on them before the other AI players do. But be careful to check out how much the system is worth before tying up production on a freighter for a rinky dink resource system. The program will sometimes alert you to stars coming out of turmoil, but it tends to tell you about the crappy ones rather than the good ones. So keep your eyes peeled for systems coming out of turmoil by watching for the red crosses to disappear.:D

EricLarsen,

Thanks for the advice. I'm new to the game and I've been claiming every resource system I could just to acquire their artifacts. However, your point is well taken, once the artifacts are gone, it's probably a good idea to see exactly how much they are worth ( i.e. potential income) before claiming them after a raid.

one more thing to keep in mind

Look at more than just the $$$ worth of the system---it may contain an ideal planet for a future colony!

dragoniv,
Yeah I like to find those nice big huge type-1 planets for colonizing so I don't mess around with terraforming and each world can have lots of stuff. They seem to be in larger star systems, but can also be found in small ones too. But getting the most lucrative resource routes is still a good thing to do just to deny them to the aliens.

Another thing I'll do is just destroy routes willy-nilly, even if I don't have the cash or interest to build a route to that system. The way I figure, either my enemy will have to pay to reestablish the route (and he's already lost it for a couple of years, and I got some cheap battle experience), or (even better) another alien grabs that system and causes some more pain for him.

It's also an easy way to get them to make nice with you if they have ships inbound to destroy your world. Go blast 1-2 of his resource routes, then ask him for peace. He'll almost always agree. Hehe.
