Unzipped pbk files become phonebooks

Post by coachtrox »

I unzipped Hack's plays and playbooks, but they show up as 'Phonebook' files in my game directory, and the game won't recognize them "cannot load playbook" message...
Any help?

First, you need to make sure the playbooks are in the plays folder in the main directory. Then you need to use the MFB-Util.exe program, in the main directory of the game, to view those playbook files.

Could you explain more? I used winzip to extract from the downloaded zip file, and they extract right to a folder called "Hack's Plays 3.4  ..". Inside that folder the playbooks are showing as phonebooks, plays are okay. When I set up Simmer's NCAA league and try to play or sim games, the 'phone' playbooks won't load, and they are tagged to most teams in the NCAA league...
How do I use the MFB-Util program to overcome this?

Open the zip file.

Inside the zip file is a folder called "Hack's Plays....."

there are 2 ways to get those plays into your "Plays" folder.

**the "Plays" folder for MaxFB is located under C:\Matrix Games\Maximum-Football**

1.) you can open "Hack's Plays...", and copy the files, then paste them into the "Plays" folder

2.) you can rename "Hack's Plays..." as "Plays" and place that folder into C:\Matrix Games\Maximum-Football, which will override the current file.  HOWEVER, my plays do not include the original plays and formations that the game came with.  so, you might want to make a back-up file first.

Open that file.

I have done that, but the playbooks are being unzipped and associated to a phonebook extension (pbk). Thus, the playbooks are not being loaded. The plays are fine, coming through as ply files...

the phone books (pbk) are the playbooks.

are you unable to assign the playbooks to teams?

The .pbk extention is used by some programs as a phonebook, and that is the Windows default for that extention.

If the playbooks files are in the Plays folder, the game should find them.

On a side note, this is something I noticed in beta. As I recall, David was going to change the extention for 3.0, as the playbooks wouldn't be compatable anyway.
