Simple R3 release notes PDS question

Post by mark1726 »

The release notes for R3 mention in new features:

"5. WYSIWYG play design"

What does this mean (excuse my football ignorance)? It sounds interesting.

What You See Is What You Get.

I take that to mean that what you see in PDS will now be exactly what you see on the field.  That wasn't always the case in the earlier releases.

Hi..

Lucas is correct. WYSIWYG is more of a computer term than a Maximum-Football term. It stems from the early days of Windows and word processor applications. In DOS apps, you were never really sure what it would print out like, but when Word and WordPerfect moved to Windows, you were able to see exactly what would be printed to the printer, hence, What You See, Is What You Get (WYSIWYG Pronounced Wizeewig).

How that relates to Maximum-Football's PDS is similar (only without the DOS part). With PDS1, you were outside the game. Everything was 2D, players were icons, and you had a small section of field to work with.

With PDS2 (available in builds 1.3.84 and higher) you have full 3D, the players you move around, are the players on the field. And you have the full length of field to work with. Instant practice lets you make a tiny change, then test it out without having to load anything.

Thanks, that makes sense now. The new PDS is much better, I like how it is basically taken from the in game engine.

As far as I know, the term WYSIWYG was coined by the team at Xerox PARC.

Steve Jobs "borrowed" it for the Apple Lisa, which became the Macintosh.

Bill Gates "borrowed" it for Windows.

It does make the PDS better. [:)]
