National Coaches Football League-Season 01
I would like to welcome anyone interested to follow along with the NCFL as we progress thru our first season.
We are, of course, a Max Football league, US rules, 10min qtrs.
Our start year is 1977. We have a rule similar to the CFL import rule, but probably more like that of Japanese Pro Baseball. In that while we use fictional players, our teams are allowed to carry 2 active NFL players from that season. Here are the results of our NFL free agent draft:
Salt Lake
1.)Wesley Walker WR
2.)Bob Avellini QB
New York
1.)Joe Namath QB
2.)Ed Podolak HB
New Mexico
1.)Larry Csonka FB
2.)Lester Hayes DB
Las Vegas
1.)Bob Kuechenberg OL
2.)Ted Hendricks LB
Detroit
1.)Bob Griese QB
2.)Fred Biletnikoff WR
Boston
1.)Dan Pastorini QB
2.)Lyle Alzado DL
Boise
1.)Dewey Selmon LB
2.)Louie Kelcher DL
Birmingham
1.)Chuck Muncie RB
2.)Billy Joe Dupree TE
Our league is 8 teams strong and will always be no more than 8.
Our season runs from mid January to early April, 10 weeks plus a title game, which we call:
The Title Game
Anyway, I will use this thread for season 01 updates. Welcome to all those interested

RE: National Coaches Football League-Season 01
We are now heading into week 3, with games on Thursday and Friday.
Namath is struggling, Griese to Biletnikoff is looking good. Ed Podolak is running well and Chuck Muncie is unstoppable, as it appears his team is also. We have some good talent among the other players as well, including Bostons trio of talented running backs.
The site isnt much, but all are welcome to stop by.
The big question is, can we pull better TV ratings than Hawaii 5-0 and Rockford Files

Sorry man, Barnaby Jones rules.
It is great how that old curmudgeon can take on those young criminals in fist fights and win every time.
I would have thought the Csonka/Hayes combo to be good. Power running on offense and the Stickum man on defense would be nice.

These were pre-steroids and Pre-Viagra times, so one has to be amazed that Jones could keep up with the other Joneses.
Maybe it was all of that money from that bubblin' crude - oil that is ... black gold ... Texas tea - that he had stashed away before changing his name and spending his life fighting crime just for the kicks or punches in this case.

Week 8 is Complete
***Post Season Possibilities***
In the EAST
Birmingham has clinched a playoff spot, but could lose home field to Boston if they tie in win/loss, as the first tiebreaker is head to head and Boston beat the Bombers earlier this season.
Detroit could jump Boston and take the second spot, or in case of a tie, Detroit would win on H2H tiebreaker.
In the WEST
It's basically a fight between Las Vegas and New Mexico for home field. Only Boise can catch them, but lost to both teams, so they cant overtake either for a spot.
Our postseason will consist of Birmingham, New Mexico, Las Vegas, and either Detroit or Boston.

We are in week 10, our final week of the regular season.
The West division sends New Mexico and Las Vegas to the Postseason. The East sends Birmingham, and either Boston or Detroit.

A stunner in Las Vegas
With a playoff spot on the line, the Detroit Speed traveled to Las Vegas to face the Venom. This was a must win for Detroit as the Boston Battalion had won in an earlier game over New Mexico. If Detroit wins, they tie Boston and advance due to H2H tiebreaker. Lose, and Boston moves on.
It started out looking grim for the Speed, as they were in negative yardage for much of the first half, and Bonas and Stanek of Vegas were on a roll. However, down 7-0 in the third, Sanchious ran it in from 10 yds for Detroit to tie the game 7-7.
Bonas then hit Stanek for a 48yd TD pass and Vegas went up 14-7 late in the 4th. But On the ensuing kickoff, Detroit Return man Beheny returned the kick 83 yds for a TD, and the game went into OT.
Thats where the Speed got the ball and Griese hit Biletnikoff with a 60yd TD pass...game over.
I caught the TD, but didnt get the pass from Griese.
