Spring Football - NFL

Post by tshipley »

Hey Everyone

Just Checking to See if Anyone has Football with draw does anyone feel that the NFL
should do some kind of Spring/Summer Football League with players from the Draft and Unprotect and Free Agents there is around 500 or more players out there but no league
to play in I know that NFL had the Europe league but I think that a Spring Football League would work over time witn 8 teams in the North American if you agree lets get a
idea together maybe send a letter to NFL asking to bring a Football League together
if you have ideas on teams lets hear them i will post my teams soon. and other ideas
on rules and style..let me know what every one thinks..
Thanks
Thomas

Hey Everyone

Heres My Line Up of the Idea Spring/Summer Football League..
Eastern Division:
Birmingham (Miners)
Memphis (Cougars)
Orlando (Panthers)
Toronto (Predators)
Western Division:
Honolulu (Dragons)
Los Angeles (Demons)
Mexico City (Aztecs)
Portland (Riptide)

10 Game Schedule All Games be Show on NFL Network 1 Sat 2 Sun 1 Mon
50 Men Rosters (45 Active + 5 inactive) NFL Rules and Refs
NFL Network would show every team camps and maybe have 2 preseason weeks
and playoffs would 2 division winners and top 2 wild card teams with Championship
Bowl play from Los Angeles
They could even sell the teams to private owners
and have where players paid by postion (i.e. Quarterbacks $500 a game,Runningbacks
$450 a game)
let me know your ideas about the this..
Thanks
Thomas

There is a spring/summer football league. It's called the Canadian Football League and has been in operation, in it's current format, for 58 years.

For that reason, I'd oppose any spring football league that sparks up. It'd take away from the talent pool the CFL uses.
It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all outta gum.

Brockleigh is right, in my opinion. As much as I enjoy the upstart type leagues, I would rather see a network pick up the CFL and show us the games. It's a great game, somewhat different from the NFL, but give people a steady dose, and market it properly, I think us statesiders would watch it.
I bumped my internet up to the best package, uber-broadband or whatever it's called, so I can watch the streaming games live this year.

I dont need a team to be near me to be a loyal follower. I am an Alouettes fan, I wear an Alouettes ballcap...my name is Gary.

They've tried spring football several times, and it's never worked out.  USFL, WFL, NFLEurope, and XFL were the most successful, and believe me its weird saying the the XFL was successful, but they did have a netrowk TV contract.  But as ratings have shown, the audience just doesn't support it.  Other leagues have formed and folded before a game has been played, including that new league that was supposed to start this summer.  The reason people embrace minor league baseball and minor leauge hockey is that they aren't broadcast, and that cuts down on operating costs.  I think a spring time minor league football could exist if people didn't try so hard push it onto TV.

That said, it would be nice if the CFL just got more exposure in the states, but after their expansion attempt in the 90s, I think its going to be a while until anyone is willing to take a flyer on it.  Maybe the Ocho when it comes around.

Games are free, or do you pay a subscription? If they are free, mind giving us the site?

Hey Guys
Just to Let yall know i am not putting down the CFL I love the game but just i would be great to see either the CFL (all Games) or a American Style 100 yard football league in the spring that the NFL could back and use for talent that NFL Network could Boardcast
all the Game since the NFL owns and operatorsthe Network anyways so thatr cuts the cost of boardcasting game out and would give the talent a place to play games and the fans i think would give in time..
Thanks

We know you weren't knocking the CFL.

The NFL network did own the rights to NFL Europe, but they folded it because it consistantly lost money.

I thought for years, that The NFL should be increasing their preSeason and regular-season games, thus move into earlier time of the year and end the entire NFL's calendar by Dec. 23rd. However, I do not see this happening in my life time.

I'd like to see some CFL games shown here in the US as well, IIRC the Grey Cup is shown on some cable channel, though Chris Berman does give the CFL some props during the MNF halftime highlights. I've been a Riders fan for a few months (thanks to MFB), and I still have yet to see them in something other than highlights. I do catch some online radio streams, though, but football is a visual sport.

And like you I'm not near the teams I cheer for. I live in Indy, and I cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

I think as it is right now, the only spring football we have are NCAA practices. CFL/NFHS ends in November, NCAA ends in January, NFL ends in February. After that there's months of no football... Though, I admit, sometimes a brief break is nice.
