Injuries

Post by henry296 »

I'm about 50 games into my first season and only 7 players have been placed on the DL all year. Is there a place for injury settings?

I don't think there's a game setting any where, though you might be able to edit the frequency in the xml file.

Thanks I've made some changes to both injury frequency and fatigue in the XML file.  If I find something I like, I'll post it because the default is not what I expect.

Henry, be careful of what you wish for. After just 10 days, there are 4 guys on the 60-day DL in my newest association. To be honest with you, I wouldn't tweak the default injury frequencies in the XML. The LAST thing I'd want is a rash of injuries and the rosters being flooded with a bunch of emergency scrub signees. This is asking for trouble, in my humble opinion.

Sorry to bring this back up but with the 1.76b and 1.77 I've had tons of injuries with PadresFans old NAMBLA association(I know it's renamed now) and with Shaun's 2009 updated rosters.

I went into the post season with only 3 relievers cause I had so many injuries going into the post season... it was rough but I won the world series :P

so does anyone know where in the XML to edit injuries and what settings would be good to use to draw back the injuries some?

Too many injuries? Not enough injuries? C'mon, guys, lets make up our minds. Frankly, in my historical leagues, I have NOT seen excessive injuries. IF the rosters are large enough, then substitutions will be made to prevent players being over-used. THIS is why I recommended that 11-man pitching staffs be used in the closer era.

Happily, I'm seeing more usage of 10-man staffs in pre-1960 teams. That's a good sign. Even at that, players/pitchers DO have down times. Look at the real-life games usage -- there aren't many guys who played every game. The temporary downtimes in PS reflect this in historical leagues, so I think the model is fine as is.

As I reported elsewhere, I've had frequency of injuries (to pitchers only) increase greatly since 1.76. That there are MORE injuries is an improvement, since for a long time I thought injuries were unrealistically infrequent. But now season after season I always have two or three pitchers on the DL (sometimes more), but injuries to position players are still rare. If nothing  else, it seems there's a bit of an imbalance between injuries to pitchers versus position players.

I 've played 5 seasons with 1.76b . At any time I have atleast one starter and usually two starters on the DL. I have traded away pitchers who are always getting hurt. Moved guys who haven't been hurt from the bullpen to the rotation and they get hurt. The pitchers I've traded away don't get hurt any more. I have lowered pitcher injuries from 95 to 85. It hasn't helped one bit. I am begining to think I'm just snake bit. I've traded all of my veterans because of injuries. My oldest player is 26 and he has been hurt three times this year. I'm going to find me a gun and kill that d__n snake!!! [8|] [X(] [:-]

Good to hear other people are having the problem.. not just me.

I have myself and a buddy of mine that's living with me that are both playing Puresim and having lots of injuries and yes the majority of them are pitchers.  Like I said in a 35 man roster I was down to 3 relief pitchers.  I ended up releasing a hitter from the minors just so I could sign a reliever to get me through the postseason to win the World Series.

So to me this is an issue.  So either it be a fix from Shaun or someone tell me how to turn down the injury frequencies.

Yes, agreed. Truth be known, in historical leagues, the injury rate for pitchers far surpasses the rate for position players. 10-pitcher staffs doesn't help.

Here's the thing -- in pre 1960 history, it was common for starting pitchers to complete at least half of their games. The XML needs to be tweaked further in adjusting historical pitcher usage. The END ratings need to be bumped up for these iron-man starters.

Even after 1960, 50% CGs wasn't uncommon until the beginning of the FA era in 1975. At this point, the era of specialization really started to take hold.
