Flying Railroads Shot Down

Post by PanzerKampfwagen »

I noticed an interesting change in the game when I upgraded from version 1.04 to 1.201: Previously, supplies, paratroopers, and infantry could be moved by rail or transport ( in other words, strategically )and then loaded into heavy bombers and airlifted all in the same turn. Now, however, after updating to 1.201, I found that the game will not let you move units both strategically and by air during the same turn. The heavy bombers can airlift units and supplies by flying to them, loading them up, and then flying on further, but nothing can be strategically moved to the bomber. In other words, no unit that has been moved strategically in any way can be airlifted during the same turn. This severely limits the usefulness of air transport. I used to be able to make multiple paratrooper-drops using the same para unit in the same turn by making a para-drop, using transports or rail to bring the para unit back to my bombers, loading it up into another bomber, and then making another drop, but I can't do that anymore either. I could also spring surprise paratrooper attacks by bringing the para units from halfway around the world and then airlifting them into enemy territory all in the same turn.
This change was not documented in the version 1.2 readme, so I wasn't sure whether it was intentional or not.
I can understand that the 1.201 patch programmer(s) probably didn't want you to be able to make multiple para-drops in one turn or be able to get paratroopers from halfway around the world, but I think that you should at least by able to move supplies and infantry both strategically and by air within the same turn. If these new rules were intentionally put into the game, that's fine, I'm all for it except that I wish supplies and infantry would be excepted. If this change was not intentional, however, then it must be a bug and I hope it will be fixed if this is the case. [:)]
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies with any information or solutions, because airlifting is like having railroads in the sky. [;)]

Hi Panzer - there was a brief discussion of this that I'm not sure you've seen. It appears it is a design decision, but I and a couple others agree with you.

As to the supply issue, you are absolutely right by the way. The "fix" kind of mucks things up.

You are absolutely right, the fix does cause a lot of trouble in this respect. I think that Keith was right to disable the paratroopers from moving both strategically and by air within the same turn, but I think they ought to reverse the rules back to what were when it comes to infantry and especially supplies.

If the official game patches don't do this, I'm hoping that Lebatron will at least fix it in his Franco's Alliance if he hasn't already.

1.202 puts back the rules the way they were with regards to airborne (and I think other units moved by heavy bombers). This is not something that could be adjusted in a modded scenario. The 1.202 version should be posted this week.
All understanding comes after the fact.
