Keeping PBEM saves?

Post by delatbabel »

Hi, Is there a way of keeping PBEM saves without counting as a reload? After I've finished my turn and saved the game, I can't reload the game without knowing my opponent's password, but I'd like a chance to review my turn, think about strategies, etc.

Can I copy the game to a different name and save it without that counting as a reload?

OK, to reply to my post:

Yes, you can copy a .psv file to a .sav file. Then you can review a PBEM save.

Not only that but you have complete view / control over your opponent's troops, builds, research page, production spiral, etc. So this completely negates Fog of War. You may as well play with Fog of War off in a PBEM game because your opponent can just rename the save file and review your units during what would be your turn.

I would have thought that at least some basic encryption to get around this would be possible. However, this is a serious bug. I guess it can explain a few things where some of my opponents appear to have known exactly where my units were at some point, so I'm posting here to let everyone know.

What does seem to be an even worse problem -- you can actually partially play your opponent's turn, rename the file from a .sav file to a .psv file, and send it back to them. So, for example, you can move some of their supply units about, or even rail them off to your front line areas, re-save the file, and I'm not sure if that's detectable. I'm working through that at the moment.
