AI flaw (garrisoning Italy)

Post by Pocus »

The Axis AI fails the garrison properly nothern Italy. A turn I took Sardinia (nothing in North Italy) just to warn the german I could have landed in Northern... turn pass, German doesnt garrison... next turn I invade and Italy surrender.

It is very easy to invade Italy with the Allies even in 41 (perhaps 40), it can cost transports or even Egypt, but its a big win. In my (humble) opinion the AI should always leave says one INF, one flak and one ART at least here (same thing for southern perhaps).

It should. Send us a series of saves (2by3@2by3games.com) and we'll try to improve it.

Yes, but it didn't help as it was an "after" save. We were not able to use it to duplicate the bug. We need one before the bug happens where if we run it the bug is likely to happen. We did however find the problem with 1 unit attacking a militia area and that fix will be in the first patch (there were at least two different attack routines and in one of them the AI was not accounting for the militia).

Got the save, thanks. Now, do you have one from the turn before? It's best when dealing with things like this to send a series of saves starting from before the bad behavior started so we load the early save and run the game and watch the AI. Then we can test any change to see if it is having the desired effect. This was something that Gary had worked on some as we had seen some weakness in the Italian garrison, but it was a tough thing to get right. Saves just before the AI's weak moves would really help. The save you sent me will help as when I run it I see that the garrison in Italy is still weaker than it should be.
