Rockets all the way. Swap out some of your SRMs for rockets (or swap 'em all out if you're feeling risky). Launch a salvo of rockets at 25 kilometres from a mine, then pick the next closest mine (even before the rockets hit) and repeat. As long as you're accurate, a single salvo is guaranteed to take out a mine.

Mines can only shoot at a range of 20 kilometres, and their guns aren't particularly powerful or accurate... as long as you keep your distance and blow 'em up before they can get more than a few shots off, you'll be coming back home with only a couple of holes in your fuselage.

[edit]Oh, and don't forget: your job is to destroy the minefield and land safely. If you can't destroy the minefield in one go, you're still expected to complete the other objective: break off the attack and return home, and your commander will be happy. In a few hours, you can fly another sortie against the minefield with a freshly-repaired fighter and a full load of rockets. As Sun Tzu might say (I have no idea, I can't even remember half of The Art), attrition is key to winning a battle. Individual victories mean little in a protracted campaign. Your long-term goal is to defeat the enemy, not your short-term goal... as such, your short-term goal should be to take little nibbles out of the enemy while suffering no casualties. A big bite where you lose your fighter is really not a big bite at all.

I found that targeting the sub system guns or fusion plant of the mine will disable it with a quick burst of laser fire. Sure missiles are the safe way to go. I havent tried rockets yet, but sound like i should.

IMO the best way to take out the mines is a full load of SRM's and lasers.
fire 3 SRM's (no more) and it will have around 1 health, altho once they had like 16 because my SRM's were damaged. . .
then just take it out with lasers so if ur in an Eagle class you can take out 8 mines on your own because goin after them with guns is suicide for me. . . might just be my dogfighting tactics with guns
A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy

Actually, the most effective way to take them out is with a destroyer :>
First time I played I stuck to intercepts and so forth, having melted myself against the mines a few times and got to Lt. Commander.

Then got myself into Gerrond, & it was actually hilarious how easy it was - we wiped out all that was left in very short order.

Kind of the long way round, and yes in general rockets are the best in a fighter - don't forget your wingman too, and stay out of range (30km? - The rockets will certainly reach there)
