I just watched a space combat gameplay video and (1) the spaceship weaponry sounded like machinegun fire (2) all the weapon effects looked and sounded the exact same (3) all ships fired weapons directly ahead (i.e no varied weapon facings).

To those who have played the game: Is this an accurate description of how space battles are depicted in the game?

I wonder where you saw that video? I would say ship fire certainly doesnt sound like a machine gun (though machine gun fire certainly does).

Weapon effects are pretty varied, though I could see where space combat can look similar, ground combat is very diverse in terms of people exploding and people getting shot ect. ect. Space combat involved big laser weapons, varying in number, color, and point of fire.

Finally: Ships fire directly ahead but change their facing to bring themselves to bear on their enemy. You dont have to worry about what direction your ship ends its turn in.

Hi altmunster,

To add to what JosephL said, I am familiar with the video(s) you saw, they're from Gamespot. These were not made by us, but were made from a beta demo that was released during E3 2003. Very very old, and the sounds were not fully implemented at the time. I can assure you Supremacy has a vast array of sound effects, and it even has contextual music -- music that changes based on the situation (fleet of ships headed your way? music tenses up. playing as a different race? music has different undertones. and much more). Michael Sweet from Audio Brain did a brilliant job with Supremacy's audio fx and music.

Let me know if you have any further questions, I'd be glad to help!
