Give this game a pass

Post by Lumberslug »

OK OK People PLEASE!!!!!

I purchased this game for two reasons
1. A Matrix product
2. I purchased witp [&o] and I love that game. (Even if I don't have enough time to play it)

Well my take on this product.........

Do you have all day????

This game in every way SUCKS

What you say? Why do I feel this way about the game? Lets go to the tape......err the information on the game from the Matrix web site.

1. The path to Supremacy is a puzzle with many pieces, from espionage

There is no espionage. There is no puzzle.

2. economic growth

This whole idea is a big joke. You take planets with as little as 1 basic infantry unit. Then you build factories (How? and with what?), then you produce ships (no ship yards required). No economic growth there. No concern for population, infrastructure, or any true economic growth. To get new technology all you have to do is take a science ship to a base. These bases can not be built you see because they start on the map for anyone to use. Where do they come from? Why are they there? I'm sure there is some back story for this but it relives Matrix of the burden of coming up with a technology tree. Then after you take the base you get to chose 1 of 16-20 different upgrades. This is right out of the 64K 1980's. Then of course these upgrades are not permanent. If the enemy takes this base from you all of your ships magically do not have that upgrade. What the *$%& [&:]

3. Play as one of four unique commanders, each with distinctive starships, ground units, abilities and strategies

This is a joke. All the ships (might be 1 per side that is unique) are the same for each side. Planets determine what ships can be built. Planets decide?? Again 64K

4. Tactical combat in space and on planetary surfaces

This is not correct. Ships move on the map and attack ships within range. This is not "Tactical" combat. Asteroids has more tactical combat than this does

5. Over 40 unique units, including suicide bombers, flamethrowers and massive mechs

Same ships, different names

6. Adaptive AI that will constantly challenge your strategies

The A.I. is in a word crap. Read the posts

7. Robust multiplayer allows players to find and challenge each other

You don't have to find anyone. There they are! On the map

8. Over 35 unique maps with map editor functionality supported

All the maps are tiny by SF standards and very basic. They make it sound like it is a MAP. Empy sace with a few planets and stars. You see everything. Some map

9. Customize the game to better suit your preferences

Well yes, you can change the volume for the music

10. 4 unique Commanding Officers provide increased replayability

These are childish at best. pre 64K (graphics aside)

11. Full in-game help system makes the game easy to learn but difficult to master

Yes this game needs help

In conclusion, this game is an embarrassment to the computer gamming world. It is childish and boring. If you want to play a SF turn based game I have a suggestion. If you purchased Masters of Orion III and hated it, dig it out (or purchase it again) load it up, play that game as long as you can stomach it, delete it from your computer, go to the ATM and withdraw $24.99 or 34.99, then go and give the money away or burn it. You will have more fun than you will get for this pile of dung
I purchased this game based on the Matrix game details and my purchase of witp. Trust me people, Matrix games has lost me as a customer. This game is a big rip off.[:@]

Wow, Slug...thnx for the long post..NOT

There are many ways to say you don't like a game...I have purchased dozens of them over the years and have not liked dozens of them. I have also purchased many Matrix games and liked most of them. But, small indie games should be passed on for awhile until impressions are forthcoming from MATURE posters....and if the game gets a good response, then buy it, if not, don't buy it. If you want to be an early purchaser, great, but just because you like WITP doesn't mean you will like or are guaranteed to like any of the other games Matrix sells. How could you not have understood that....HELLO.

I'm not saying don't post your feelings for any game. Just try and be a little more tactful and less offensive.

Slug,

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like Supremacy. We've heard from other players that like it quite a bit more than you do, but I understand you are quite disappointed. I would also ask that you consider what bearing the $25 you spent (unhappily) on Supremacy has to do with the rest of our catalog, which consists of a diverse variety of Sci-Fi and Historical Strategy games each from different development studios with different designs and philosophies.

We will also be working with Black Hammer to see what can be done in an update to address some player suggestions and concerns.

Regards,

Well I enjoyed it, for a while anyway. Not the longest lasting game on my hard-drive, I'll admit, but on the other side far from the most expensive, either. That said, I thought (the patched) MoO3 kicked serious ass and still do, which makes me a member of a real minority group [:D] As for no longer being a Matrix customer, if you want to miss out on stuff like Battles in Italy, Conquest of the Aegean and Combat Leader because you didn't like this one, well... your loss, I guess.

The hit and miss ratio seems to vary from gamer to gamer. I confess to buying a lot of games which might make me less careful than most, but I'd guess out of every five games I buy I might play one or two for any length of time. The others aren't usually bad (there's the odd exception, of course) but just don't grab me. If I boycotted every publisher who had sold me a turkey (including Matrix - but I'll mention no names [;)] ) there wouldn't be anybody left to buy games from!

Hmmm.........

I never bought this game as I read about it and new it wasnt for me. I knew I wouldnt enjoy it, its not my cup of tea and being a budget game you get what you pay for.

However to say you will never buy another Matrix product is a rather rash thing to say.

Your not going to buy the WiTP expansion then?

Your not going to buy Combat Leader?

Not interested in HTTR or CotA or any of the future games in the series?

What about Close Assault when thats finished?

I know for a fac that if I bought a game from Matrix I didnt enjoy it wouldnt stop me from buying any game in the future that I know will be excellent.

I hope you keep to your word.

I understand your anger somewhat but .......
What I do is "No demo. No buy". It seems to me that the not so great games don't have demos. That could be for a reason.
