About the tactical combat element

UFO: Extraterrestrials is a futuristic real-time/turn-based strategy blend set on the fictional planet of Esperanza in 2025. Having made a bloody first contact with a strange form of life from another planet, the player is thrust into the tough position of leading the defense of this isolated planet against the never-ending assault of these hostile invaders

About the tactical combat element

Post by JudgeDredd »

I wanted to ask a question about the tactical element.

I see alot of people saying "If my soldiers are downed / killed I like to reload my saved game"

That's all well and good for individuals who do this and, I suspect I may do it on more than a few occasions if I buy this game.

But my question is this...are the placement of aliens on the tactical level randomised? I really have an aversion to "fixed starting positions" when it comes to tactical games. It does two things
  • Makes the game too easy on a tactical level
  • reduces the effective replay value of the game

So I would like to hear whether or not the starting positions of the aliens is randomised.

Thx

I think so, yes. I certainly have not noticed any way to predict their location so far, except in general terms (some will often try to ambush my landing party, often others will still be near/in the downed UFO, etc.). In any case, they also move and think about how best to kill you each turn.
