RE: I Give Up
I just had a terror mission. I had 8 troopers and a plasma tank. The troopers all had plasma guns and one had a chemogun and two had some flame rockets. I faced (as it turned out) about 15 Destroyers. The flame missles took out four and the guy with the chemogun took out 8. Two guys survived. (actually they were female [;)] )
Gas grenades weakened them but the plasma rifles were almost useless.
Actually, one guy had an Ion rifle and was able to take down 2-3 weakened Destroyers now that I think back on it.

wow dbt1949----15 of them------most i had was 6 or 7.What kind of strategy do u use to get close to them? I use rifles only,at least in my easy game i did and picked em off by stealth and distance.Never tried to get close to them.

RE: I Give Up
I had the guy with the chemogun shoot a hole in wall from inside the building. I then lured the Destroyers just outside the hole while my guy was just around the corner. Pop out and take them one at a time. Twice he he two with one shot.
I could never have done that in a regular recovery mission as there isn't enough cover.
But in terror missions if I'm outclassed I use the buildings to cut down on the AI advantage. Carry plenty of chemical gas grenades and starting with this game 2-3 troopers with rocket launchers in the backpacks w/3 extra rounds of fire/chemical rockets and carry whatever is the current class rifle. I have another guy always carrying a chemogun in his backpack in case he gets any close encounters.
After realizing that the big weapons only hinder your troops if they carry them in their hands I like to have them carry them in their backpacks until the big ones are needed.
PS...That was the first time I've ever seen a terror mission with nothing but Destroyers. A battlecruiser I believe from the salvage.

I've toyed with the flamethower-in-every-backpack tactic; the big problem I have with it is that there is no room for a medkit anywhere.

I don't put them in every backpack. Say, every other backpack and then you can have a medkit in the other one. Then make two man teams.

Going back a page in this thread-----talking about research--------I researched everthing as fast as i could----I had 1 Adv.Lab and 2 small ones going full time-----Money was tight and usually ran out half way through the month and would have to sell off alien tech to make it to end of month.I found that keeeping up tech wise with the aliens worked for me.Had 4 workshops going like crazy aswell.

RE: I Give Up
I tried one game of medium research that did okay for money wise but I was always behind in my production.
I did a second game with fast research. I was always in a bind money wise and ran into the advanced aliens too damn fast.
On my third game I'm researching slow but oddly enough I'm ahead of my other two games timewise. I have more money than I know what to do with. My last mission I got the Phantoms for the first time. However this time I had EEEW rifles and rocket launchers with chemical and fire rockets. It was almost a mop up. Now I've research them and have particle rifle technology but haven't had time to build them yet.
I used 20 research until I built an advanced lab then I cashed the other two labs in and just have used the 30 for research since. I am up to 70 production guys now too and still making money.

Fast track worked out for me on easy game but i'm having a very tough time on hard---2 labs--3 workshops---had second base in march, lost it in april but got it back[Not witin the 10 days though}and had to rebuid.Money was tight.then May came along and it was a Disaster.Fighters and Scouts starting on day 2 and they never stopped coming.Aliens tookover 4 states.I took one back and had several landed fighter missions which turned into mineing missions and by the 10th of May i had no one to fight with. All i could do was shoot down what i could reach and leave em to rot or be picked up or whatever. Finally got some people healed and managed to take out one of thier bases just before month end.Had POOR rateing and now have no money for the month---started with $700,000 for the month of june.Have BeeKeeper armour now though---stillusing laser tech.-----This could be a short game.

Well, yeah. I mean, no offense to BMAN, but all he basically wanted was "X-com", and rushed to un-do all the obvious changes CC made in the formula of the game, but even with those, this still isn't X-com. At the end of the game, a lot of the aliens are much, much, much tougher than the ones in X-com. If you add permanent death and have the aliens throwing grenades, too, then yeah, you're going to struggle.
Eh I don't play with several of the options I've added to the mod b/c I don't like them either

P.S. I posted 2.05 which adds sounds for spotted aliens and when anything takes damage. I find it makes combat a bit more fun.

You see, it was worth it after all [8D]
This is a game that rewards extended play, certainly with the Frankenmod installed.
Hope you win soon Jimwinsor...

RE: I Give Up
Finally, I saved the human race!
I was down to seven men at the final battle. The Magnificent Seven! One got dropped by an egghead commander while exploring the mothership, another was standing in a bad spot and got hit by friendly fire near the brain while everyone was shooting at it. Sigh, typical of my game! [8|]
I can't believe this was on Easy. This was the hardest Easy setting in a game I've ever seen. I cannot imagine trying to play this with a higher difficulty level (although I'm sure there are those who have).

RE: I Give Up
I hate this game! So much I've started 4 times and been crushed. Last time I make it all the way to 4th generation weapons, but I STILL DONT HAVE ANYTHING EXCEPT THE PUKE 1ST GENERATION ARMOR.
Anybody know what triggers your ability to do research. I've got 4th generation in weapons but not much in artifacts or armor. I decided it was because I have not searched any fighters, so I go find one and lose 8 men (I have not found the larger tranport yet either) so once again I QUIT.

RE: I Give Up
You have to research the alien hull armors to get the new personal armors, IIRC. There is a FAQ which lays out the tech tree listed here somewhere...

RE: I Give Up
You need to have captured an alien battleship to ge the latest armor. I believe you have to have captured(recovered) and alien battlecruiser to get the desert viper armor.

RE: I Give Up
I finally finished the game. What a bore. The mothership was just another 2D level, and the "brain" was a complete pain. UFO:E has zero replay value unless someone uses it as an engine for a totally new game.
RE: I Give Up
I just had my first encounter with the "Preachers" and killed 8 while captureing their commander. I am playing the game with no "mods". The key is patience and heavy lasers. I defended a pillared room with one entrance which enabled me to hide behind the pillars. Of a crew of nine I had three heavy lasers and a rocket launcher. It took 11 hours gametime to complete the mission but can now continue with research and interrogation. I am an XCom veteran and find that what worked there works here. I really like the harder games because of the challange. Don't get discouraged just be patient.

This isn't true at all. I was eager to start again as soon as I finished, and it seems many others feel the same way from what I've read. You may wind up at the same place every time, but there are many different approaches you can try to get there.
