Aliens - graphics... hello?

Post by reanor »

I am confused. Is it made on purpose or its just my brain is glitching? I've been playing for a little while and I've seen I think 5 different types of aliens already. The problem is that 3 types are not rendered at all. They look like blurried splashes of paint with a vague shape of alien. Is it some kind of X-Com nostalgy crap? I mean why not all alien types are rendered equally well? What is this? It looks really ugly at some point.. I play on max settings.

I don't recall seeing anything like that. Could you post a screenshot? Are you using the latest update? Any mods?

You must be using Bman's 3.10 or higher. The following are old XCom graphics (with plasma shots to kill):

Sectoid: the little Roswell-like bald alien, one shot kill. (BTW, it CANcarry a heavy plasma gun. OUCH!)
Floating Disk: Blows up out to 6 spaces away, shoot from long range, usually 3-5 shots.
Muton: Green football-like guy, one of old XCom's heavy hitters, they take 3-5 shots to kill.
Etheral: Flying Darth Vader in purple, drops in one shot. (Haven't seen them use their mental attack yet.)
Orange Foot Thing (forgot the name): looks like a big mouth with 2 big feet. Melee only, 3-5 shots to kill.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I use Bmans 14 and of course I didn't read. Is there a way to disable those creeps? They are so ugly graphics wise that they spoil the whole impression about the game.

Go to Bman's Ease of Use on main game screen, go to tactical, select "Mod disabled" for XCom Alien Invasion.

Ok, I will.

I have a question though. I like almost everything in BMans mode except those oozy X-Com mobs. I think I would like them more if they were rendered better, nothing I can do, I need good graphics to play games. So my question is is it possible to disable everything related to X-Com, including researches, monsters, soldiers, items etc but leave the rest of the mod functional? Or disabling X-Com Alien invasion will take care of all of it?

I also don't like that existing mobs "conflict" with old X-Com content. There is a Vyran for example that called snakeman in old X-Com and has quite cheap description and ugly picture, while Vyron (spelling) is fully rendered cool loking mob. If Bman would render up all those creatures it would be priceless mod. But *sighs* oh well

So disabling X-Com Invasion will take out of the game all of the "old" content correct?

Also, is there a way to force Bman mod's settings onto existing game. I have started a game before and now I want to change some settings that only available from main menu and I want those settings to take effect in the existing game, is it possible or I have to set those settings and start all over?

For example I don't like that creatures can see me sooner than my soldiers and it makes me nuts, so I want to balance the distance for both a little but this setting is available only from the main menu and it doesn't really change it for the saves that I have in place already. So whats the verdict? Go to main menu, set up the settings and start over?

Thanks,

It's my understanding that you can change BMan's settings on an existing game by starting the game up to the main screen (don't load the save game), changing what you want to change, and then load up the game.

3.14 has a bug: the sight range settings do not have any effect.  It will be fixed in 3.15 which is due out hopefully by the end of the week.
