Why an imaginary planet instead of earth?

Post by Hortlund »

Because that is the big dealbreaker for me. It would be really fun to play on earth, pretty uninteresting on some made-up planet.

The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

Your kidding right? I can't imagine that as a reason for not buying it. I just hope it's good, it being on Earth is the last thing on my would bother me list. I tell you what if they give the option to name your bases like the old X-Com you can call them any earth city you want..or even call them New Earth.

Because Earth has been done to death. Literally, as far as I understand the game´s backstory.

Seriously, I´m going to enjoy not having it set on our old blue planet for a change. I mean, real continents and real nations and real cities are all very nice, but they´re getting OLD.

At first I thought it was because of copyright issues - looking too much like xcom but then I read

the player here in UFO:ET operates 2 geoscapes: Esperanza and Earth.

Well, the first series was on Earth, and when I heard this game was not I kinda faltered .. for a minute. If one checks the screen shots, you can see the new world is kinda looking cool. Also, many other games are set on Earth, and the tactics are kinda old for the Blue Marble. I am definately looking forward to checking out this 'alien' planet, and am curious as to what any strategies there may be for it ...

I'm looking forward to some new battle environments! Let's face it, that was one of the few weaknesses with Xcom...the battlefields got stale after awhile. Oh look, 'the farm' again...and again...

Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily.
