UFO can keep commanders

i got 1 commander on 2 seprate missions but when i returned to base they where gone and inorder to get any further in the game i need to reserch more commanders.i also have all the latest updates. any ideas?

Have you built the interogation room? If so have you captured more than 12 of them? That is the limit of Commander research. Perhaps you are stuck because you have not captured the largest ship yet? It does not show up for quite a while.

iv been getting lots of battlecruisers and lost 3 commanders and i have an interagation room

and if there is a limit of 12 commanders how do i progress further in the game

At a certain point in time, you're just waiting to kill a Battleship, which might show up soon, or not.
