System Shutdown

Post by warpstone »

Hopefully someone else has had this problem or has some insight on how to fix it. After I install and patch the game shuts down the computer, no reboot just straight to power off. I have adjusted the video card settings and made sure I had the lated video driver.

I am running a Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of ram and 2 8800GTS video cards running SLI mode (which I did disable and try again). Normally I would keep trying different things but I am worried that the repeated hard shutdown might screw up the hard drives.

It's not generating any kind of crash file but here is the console.txt and I will add the dxdiag as an attachment.

wow that's crazy.  Can't say I've heard of that one.  Have you tried setting the processor affinity so that it only runs on a single core?  Only other thing I could think to try is to run it in windowed mode:  open the ufo-et.ini file in your UFOET\data folder and search for the "format" setting and set it to 0 (ie: format=0).

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions Bman.  I tried windowed mode and that actualy got me into gameplay but still powered down the PC after mabey 30 seconds and still generated no crash file.  I will adjust the affinity on the processor and see if that fixes it.  I have over come some horrible crashes in games before but this one has me stumped.  On the upside it works just fine on my laptop.

Unfortunately setting core affinity to a single core with SLI set on or off and in windowed mode had no effect.  I am glad however that I can still play the game on my laptop.  Thank you for the help.

I know it sounds stupid, but do you maybe have a hotkey setup to powerdown your computer and you are pressing this during the game?  Well anyway good luck.  I have no more ideas.

I have recently solved this issues and it had nothing to do with the game, it was just the first signs that my PSU was going out and the increased power drain was causing the problem.  New power supply = no problem.  Thanks for the input Bman
