Graduated Boot Camp

I took advantage of the Matrix sale and just graduated Boot camp as Oberst; from what little I've learned so far, PC is something like a cross between the CM and CC games.

I'm starting scenarios soon, but I have a few questions.

Do those green and red stars listed w/all the unit accolades indicate veterancy (raw recruit to vet)? What was the star for elite?

How do I know how much ammo my units have left, esp. arty?

Will my units crawl on their own when necessary?

I was more comfortable w/CM commands -- maybe I just need more time w/PC. One thing is sure -- the PC graphics are superior: my soldats don't have those CM "doll" faces.

You need to read the manual, sorry. This game does not count bullets or shells. There is a chance of running out after a period of time. There is no number of turns, it ends when one side reaches the top of the score meter. There is not the same level of animation as CM. No flamethowers, no crawl, no walking into buildings or such.

You might be referring to medals or wound badges? not sure, post a screenshot maybe?
when in the game, the unit name shows in different colors depending on unit experience.
How do I know how much ammo my units have left, esp. arty?

Ammunition isn't tracked by shot. There is a percnetage chance you will run out of ammo, its more likely that you will run out of the rarer ammo than the common ammo. This may or may not change in the next game in the series.

You don't see the crawl animation, but difrernt move orders 'imply' crawling, or at least extremely cautious movement. Defend-->Move would probably be the closest, but again, you dont see them actually crawling

The orders takes some getting used to. But over all I like the way they work once you do get used to them.

There is a patch coming out in not too distant future (hopefully) that will make the game even better.

The stars are for platoon command; The unstared are the other squads of that platoon. When the light is green then arti can be called in (that platoon becomes spotters).

Green to gold letters of-unit-name in the bottom left 'Unit Info' denote experience.

defensive move is something like crawl. Understanding all that means you will have to become familiar with the manual.
Images should be easier to load at Matrix.

Sorry but I did read the manual; it was repetitive -- usu. a good thing -- and had many technical explanations, but it still left something to be desired.

Was it the tutorial that still talked in terms of "turns," i.e., when reinforcements, as a tank, would turn-up on turn # 5 or 6?

It was just confusing.

This is my second reading of the manual and I'm still having problems understanding the controls; I think CM maneuvering was more explicit/intuitive.

I'm looking at p. 36 under the sub-order Defend>Move, which is for "defensive adjustments rather than full movements" - was that supposed to describe "crawling"?

Was this manual originally written in a language other than English, say Russian? It reminds me of the first BoA manual, loosley adapted from the French.

Thanks, and thanks for the welcome.

At the end of a set battle scenario, I discovered that a colored star indicated a driver had attained veterancey.

And you're right; this game does take "some getting used to"; it reminds me of CM, but it's not CM.

Hopefully by the time I get thru the set scenarios I will have a better handle on it all.

Yeah it was written by Texans in American [:D]

The biggest problem I had starting out, was undoing my CM thinking. I tried to relate everything in PC to a thing in CM and some other games.

No turns, no ammo, no troop count, step loss for infantry, mounting buildings, all can be confusing.

The orders menu is being improved along with it's tooltips.

I wouldn't expect to see changes in order menu in the patch, I would think that would be something they'd put in the next game in series.
