I should add the upcoming patch adds a relatively huge amount of new stuff and improvements, which is part of the reason it is taking some time, but it is getting closer to release.

I'd like to offer a big thank you to all the contributors to the new patch - the community for PCK is fantastic.

It was originally planned for release before the end of 2008. It is getting very frustrating waiting! This is a great system that needs a kickstart to renew interest in it.

Agreed, but we are going as fast as we can. This is a mega update rather than a usual patch, with tons of extra team-created content (units, maps, scenarios) and the incredible map maker as well as code updates.

Any chance of changing the green tracer fire to red Erik? Or a yellow red or yellow red and black?

Just want to check - the battle generator and campaign generator will work with IE8 post patch, won't they? I am eagerly awaiting the patch so I can do some random battles

Yes, the patch will get everything working with IE8.

The default tracer fire colors are historical, killroy, and will not be changed. However, there are a number of tracer fire mods you can try to change the color to something you prefer.

Erik

Something just occurred to me...what happens beyond IE 8? I only ask in so much as had I known PCK did not work with IE8, I would not have upgraded...an impossible question would be "Will this work with IE9 and beyond?" but a more realistic one would be "Do you plan to support past IE8?"

I wouldn't think it's a big deal... If not then I will simply not migrate to another IE explorer if I want to continue playing this...I'll use a third party browser. Like I said - I would not have upgraded to IE8 if I knew it would break the battle and campaign generators.

Also, whilst I'm here - any update on this patch? I'm quite keen to try the generators out (now I can't of course) [:'(]

Judge,

I can't speak for Erik about future support. BUT

as far as the patch goes. It really is getting closer. i know that as some modders are waiting for next test build, they (the modders) are still adding things as well. (new models, maps, scenarios).

k thx Rick.

Still want to know about future versions of IE though...if this version is linked to IE8 and previous versions (and it makes sense that it is), then I'd like to know if future support for other browser versions will be available. Like I said, no big deal though - I just want to know to save myself the same "heart ache" I'm going through now - having installed IE8 and not being able to use the generators - so the "sandbox" mode is broken for me. Yes it rather sucks that you buy a new computer and the game doesn't work properly because the new computer system is installed with IE8. I'm in the same boat you are now I can't play it because that's all I ever play is sandbox random generated scenarios. Looks like they could at least release a hotfix for that and then continue with the regular patching scheme?

I am not in charge of the patch, but if there is no (patch) news by the end of the month I will release a IE8 hotfix for you guys.

So, the generator only works with IE and not FireFox or Opera? ActiveX component? Too bad it wasn't Java.

I am planning to pick up PZK when the patch comes out.

Thanks.

As I understand, the generators use bits that are included with IE but not in windows. IE comes with every version of windows. You do not need to use IE as your browser to run the game.

First generation worked with IE7 which was the current version.

People screamed for IE6 and that was fixed in the first patch.

Between then and now IE8 comes along and who knew it would be a problem.

BTW, I updated to IE8, perceived it to be a hog like IE7, tried FF 3.5 and have used FF since.

Used to come with every version of Windows. What was the final decision for Win7 and the EU? I lost track of that one.

I think you can run multiple versions of Opera and Firefox, but as far as I know you cannot run multiple versions of IE.

Well, I got my promotion code tonight. Now, just waiting for the patch.

What killroy said! :) I'm in South Africa for six months and cannot generate campaigns on my new laptop... back to Fallout 3 for a while ;)

Cheers,
