Is there an ETA for the new patch? Mid september? October? Wanna start another PBEM but I stopped waiting for the all-inclusive patch some months ago. Is it still worked on?

invernomuto,

I"ll let Erik give ETA, BUT yes - the patch is still being worked on. I think it's getting pretty close, but I think Erik got waylaid by the release of another game that was happening. But it is definetly being worked on still!

Yes guys, we have a new exe with several fixes, integration of what is hopefully to be the patch release candidate has been delayed due to several other priorities on my plate. The main delay was WITP AE-related and while I continue to work on that and our other releases, there is some daylight in my schedule again to complete the PCK update. The secondary delay has been a fairly complex integration process as this update contains a large amount of new content created by the community team and I have to make sure one set doesn't step on another set and that everything works well. The integration process has been ongoing through the internal beta versions, but the latest integration and validation process started almost two weeks ago and is still ongoing, as my schedule allows. I plan to finish it this week.

Oh no hurry now Erik since I got that hotfix for Ie8 I can play it again and other than the tracer fire which I found a mod for and changed it to red and white and the color of the directional view piece which I changed to white I see no hurry now for the patch. I hope the new content has some more maps as I can never have enough maps to play with. Thanks again though for the Ie8 hotfix.[:)]

Oh what's you guys hurry? You have Battlefronts Combat Mission series you can play while you wait. You could go back to playing Steel Panthers or buy some new games from Matrix from the Close Combat or John Tillers Campaigns series. Quit rushing the dedicated programmers. Besides Kharkov works fine now with the Ie8 fix and I think the patch is more about content updates than a fix to some small insignificant bugs? Am I right Erik?

Killroy,

The patch will also deliver the latest (and greatest) MapMaker version. This version makes it even easier to create maps.

The new Mapmaker offers numerous improvements and new features.

The only kind of mapmaker that would work for me Rick is a random generated one. I've never liked modding a game especially maps. Developers should do that for us afterall that's what I pay them for. [:'(] I so wished they could have done a random generated map like Combat Mission and Steel Panthers does. That would be the icing on the cake for this series and I would buy every one of them (actually I already have up to this point)

Kilroy,

I can appreciate that. The revised MM will have at least one template that can be used to simplify the map making process, but it's still not random. I actually had mixed success with CM random maps, some were ok, but some were not.

But in any case, the new patch will make more maps available for random games, AND hopefully the new MapMaker will make it easy enough for more folks to create maps for use.

I had this devious thought. :)

Since CM already has a random map maker, someone just needs to write a map converter utility. I recall a long time ago, there was a utility which would convert CMBO maps to CMBB maps or so I thought.

Besides perhaps being less work than writing a random map generator, it might also make a wealth of existing maps available for use.

Or what about a CC map converter?

Well, just idle musing.

The CC->PZK idea is a little less half baked, since Matrix holds rights to both.

Hi Mark.

This is not my forte.

But

from what I gather CM used a tile based system --small map segments tiled to build a bigger map. The segments were rotated and repositioned to build new maps.

PzC uses a through composed map. I don't think it can be chopped up and then recombined to build new things.

The hard part of the tile based system --the genius of that system--is syncing up the edges: having all segment edges be available for re positioning. (It inhibits smooth/through composed landscape creation though.)

The genius of Stridor's system --other than the program itself--is one can take an image of a _real world_ landscape (eg your neighborhood) [1km x 1km for now] and then build a "virtual-world" replica of it fairly easily. This might be the first of its kind ever invented. (One can use a fictitious 1x1km plot too if desired.)

As far as CC to PzC. CC is a 2d flat world. (It is a testament to the artist that it looks 3D.)

One could use the 2D CC maps (assembling some to be 1kmX1km] like one would use a google earth screen shot now in MM. But you would still have to build the end result: get or invent height data and place 3D buildings and trees and stuff. (MM specifically makes that close to or fully automated.)

Doing the CC maps [and battles] for PzC 3D is something I would like to see actually. That would be neat. Good idea, Mark.

But it isn't necessarily a short cut using CC maps as your starting point.

Indeed it would be harder:

1)A google earth capture of a famous battlefield doesn't need to be assembled from made up unconnected segments like the CC maps are; eg a .2x.4km map edged up to a .6x.4km map from a different battle.

2)Since the end result would have to pass known muster(all the CC players), the creator couldn't fudge things. It would be like covering a famous tune.

But I'd like to see the CC battles and maps [and SqdLdr etc too] redone for PzC anyway, even though its harder than just using MM straight out of the box.

"Er ah, we don't do these things because they are, er ah easy. But because they are, er ah, hahd..."

(NOTE Close Combat is a platoon tactics game with much more micro management than PzC with its company trending towards Kampfgruppe abstracted style.)
Images should be easier to load at Matrix.

welcome aboard. The patched version will run fine with IE7 as well, so you don't necessarily need to upgrade to IE8 unless you just want to.

So cold is arrived again, in the last months a lot of MG's games was updated, this is right but... is PC:K at the end of the priority's list or more below? I think that it was better to have two patches than wait too much for one comprensive of all!
