Your Play Preferences.....

Post by Mad Russian »

Do you play vs the AI or against other gamers the most?

I'm pretty much split. I play vs the AI when I playtest my scenarios but I prefer to play a gamer.

I have some scenarios that are balanced for each game mode but I'm looking to see what the gamers play and what they want to see. Once we get some more scenarios being custom designed we can start tracking the downloads and see for ourselves which get the most attention. In CM the vs AI scenarios are the most downloaded normally.

A couple of reasons for that. The AI is always available and ready to play. It will quit when you want and fight when you want.

I've just finished my first scenario where I have a H2H balanced scenario and also one for vs AI play.

That will probably be what I do for at least the first few scenarios to see how they go.

So what are YOU looking for?

Good Hunting.

MR,

Glad to see you got MM working. I seldom play vs Human in any wargame, preferring to battle vs the AI.

Thanks

I still can't get buildings in my maps but I'm working on it. Then after that is the height map. After that it's just a matter of learning the color set.

A good designer can use the AI to give a good accounting for itself. If the CM AI can be used to create intense battles any AI pretty much can. I don't see an issue of the PC AI not being able to fight. It does some things I'm not fond of but in the end, before the scenario is over it gives a good enough account of itself. Especially in the PC bent which seems to be German side gamer vs Russian side AI.

Good Hunting.

Against the computer AI exclusively....and in PC:K I find it quite a challenge....some really tough fights.

If you haven't played an HSG scenario in CM then you made a concious choice not to. We are pretty much everywhere at The Scenario Depot II. Thanks for the vote of support for our work. We try to give to you what we like. Well balanced scenarios, with detailed briefings, based on historical actions, where we put you in the commanders boots.

While I'm the one that started HSG, all HSG scenarios aren't mine, and mine are the least well designed of the group. I got those other guys to join my group and show me how to make historically based tactical scenarios for CM. I came to the CM system late. I'm not making that mistake with the PC series. So far I have 2 scenarios I'll put my stamp on here in the PC series.

HSG Sledgehammers - a scenario that takes place near Prokhorovka during the day that history incorrectly marks as the great tank battle. It is ready for release. Still waiting to see if Erik wants scenarios for the upgrade coming out soon. If not I'll release it myself.

HSG KC Oberloskamp H2H - This was the first scenario in the HSG KC series (Knight's Cross)I did for CMBB and it works pretty well in PC, according to our playtesting results. Another run through or two and it will be ready to release.

HSG KC Oberloskamp AI - This is the vs the AI version of the scenario. I don't believe that scenarios can be made to competitively play in more than one game mode....

Head to Head (H2H)
AI vs Allied
AI vs Axis

It's been my experience that a scenario generally only plays well one way. IMO, the scenarios with both PC:OWS and PC:K are all very much German biased and only play well in the mode of the campaigns. I haven't played them all yet but that's how I feel after finishing those I have played.

Mine in H2H mode will allow each side a reasonable chance to win with the combat intense and have you sitting on the edge of your chair. I have about 10 CM scenarios that I play at any given time, for tournaments, playtesting, etc....and for the first time ever, during this last playtest we did of KC Oberloskamp, the PC scenario was the game I opened first when doing PBEM's.

You need to be aware that there can be issues with PBEM. They are not earthshaking but they can certainly stop things until you figure out how to remedy them. At present Matrix doesn't have a fix for the PBEM issues or if they do I haven't seen them.

The issues are addressed in the Tech Support Section and are pretty detailed about what to do if you get stuck in the middle of a PBEM.

Good Hunting.
