OOB Request

Post by benpark »

It would be nice to be able to choose a more historical order of battle in the next iteration in both the random battles/campaigns and in regular scenarios.

The odd groups of soldiers one can have together (SS and Heer, Guards and regular for example) on the battlefield is good as an option, but selecting historical units with typical oob's should be available. The selection of individual platoons should absolutely be kept, but perhaps there should also be an option to select by battalion scale that would adhere to historical counterparts.

benpark,

That's a very good idea.

I would like to see something along the lines of the JTCS dynamic camp system ... but better. Something where it pulls your units out of your parent division/battalion etc, so you work with or trade off units back into a force pool during the camp.

Integrated with Stridor's latest MM so that as you progress, you are sent to different locations and the maps are created as you go.

Is this what the Presets files are doing? Not sure but it looks like thats how they are described in the manual. You might want to dig into them and see if creating your own "Preset" would give you what you want. I'm pretty sure in the RBG you can then select that preset, then generate your random battle from it.

Yeah, the presets do that but it only works in one direction ... they feed you unit's based on a percentage chance (the auxillary forces) ... but you can't keep them nor can you swap out.

They could expand on the presets and work off an OOB that's based on components of a division instead of a random chance of getting something. In other words, you are presented with a current "availability list" and you buy what you need and if they survive then they are returned to the force pool for later use ... retaining their veteran status and awards.

It could be something like what Close Combat does ... You know, you have a pool to draw off of for the task at hand.

Now, I did attempt such a preset by making some adjustments to my panzer grenadier mini camp I was working on. Instead of aux forces I just had a small core force of ~ 250 pts and made an availability pool of ~ 250 pts , totally around 500 pts for the battle. Using a reduced force size it rolled individual units with the potential of being reinforced ... ie 1 PzIve with a opportunity to buy the extra tank instead of having 2 tanks rolled which forced you to by both tanks.

Anyway, I should upload this little mod as an example to see if it can be expanded. It basically brings back the traditional force pool buying effect we all miss from other games.

If anyone is interested then holler. It's standalone so you don't need an extra mods to run it ... however it can be run with the 251/10 with just a small tweak.

Rob,

Why don't you post it. I'll check in the mods forum. Perhaps I'll look into this myself. I have Nafzigers Panzers and Artillery OOB, as well as his Infantry OOB books.

I didn't really understand everything I was reading, but later this week I may be able to dig into it. I never really got into this XML stuff, but maybe I should try and sort through it.

Thanks,
Rick
