Sd Kfz 221 Scout Car
Has anyone made a model for the Sd Kfz 221 Scout Car. I see there is data for this unit, but it uses the generic Unit model.
Has any of you done this one, or do any of you plan to do it? The reason I ask is there was a platoon of them assigned to the 1 Recon Bn, 3rd Pz Div., and I was going to include them in the Battle plan.
I think for the time being I will leave them out (rather not have them showing up looking like a tank - might get confusing).
Thanks,
Rick
I have the 75th Art Rgt entered, and I'm working on the I Recon Bn. That leave the 543rd Panzerjagger and the 38th Pioneer. The other units are support units, which I don't plan to include in the 3rd Pz Div OOB.
Also I've given the 1st Co/I Bn/3rd schutzen Rgt, half-tracks. While Nafziger doesn't indicate they had any, Niehorster indicates that this company was 'Armored Infantry" distinct from the other compaines in the Regiment. ( and besides, it nice to see in the game).
Thanks,
Rick

I can start one...but don't expect sudden speed.

Ryan,
Thanks - I'm not sure how much use it would get, so might not be worth your time. I'll forge ahead and leave this unit out for now and if you decide to do a model that would be great.
I'd consider giving it a shot, but I don't really understand the modeling side of things, and I'm a lousy artist.
Thanks!
Rick

A chimera (monster of two parts) could be the Russian little ski-B64 turret, a BA body, Sdk222 wheels, gray-green German tank com. (Early recon might have worn black.[?])
Most 221s had MGs; later some had the PZBuk.
I searched for 221s and found different images /things! (They couldn't all be 221s.) Some were just 222s with smaller turrets; and other times they were like little soap box roadsters. 221s are the "lost vehicles" of WWII. Nobody knows about them out there. Seriously.
Mobius has books on WWII vehicles. Maybe he has definitive images.

The 221 was the standard German four wheel AC body with a small turret with MG. (The 222 also uses the same body.) In 1942 they added a mount for the 2,8cm squeeze bore gun.ORIGINAL: spellir74

Ah... It's simply the rear view of the 221. But doesn't it look too thin to be the 222 body?

They don't work, visually. Just checked them (in between my incessent HT checks).
The BA64 turret is a blank "place holder" type.
In order to have the 221, they need to modded proper. Problem is that I'm having a devil of time bringing new turrets/guns over to exsisting bodies in FragM.
Only Mraah's Pak36-as-turret for HT 251/10 seems to work. I don't know what the trick is. I'm going to 1) find a FragM tut (which I have yet to read actually --cause I'm stubborn) and 2) imitate mraah's 251/10-Pak 36 bone names and place-order exactly.
===========
Oh btw, when a scenario load freezes I hold 'esc' for a couple seconds and pzC closes out; all seems okay after that.

spellir74,
The trick was that I didn't use fragM ... back then it was all MS3D. If you can't get your turret working in fragM then let me know. I can explain more about the how-to ... I explained a little bit in my Whirbelwind thread.
Also, I experimented with fragM and MS3D. I was able to export to MS3D and replace the AT-rifle with a Panzershreck but when I exported the model I needed to rename all the animation "frame_bone_" ... Unfortunately, even though the animation in MS3D looked (acted) correct, when it exported it to .X format it got corrupted ... but at least PcK was able to load it, albeit funny animations.
Below is a screenshot of my panzershrek prototype in MS3D ... The only way I can think of getting it to work is to redo all the animation (argh!). I'm still experimenting and finding out the bugs when MS3D exports to X with an imported fragM model.

That's great, Rob. I'll be interested to see how this turns out, as I still want to do some work on infantry figures.

WIP: 221 early recon.
(And this is after I thinned the 222 body down and widened the BA64 turret. I didn't triangle-ize the rear though; the 222 Horch body is simply triangle shaped.)

Almost.
(I know this is taking a while but that is because ....as I learn, I make the project bigger, so as to do it right. Learned lotsa things with this "quick" diversion; will apply that to future half tracks.)
