Organizing Mods

Post by rickier65 »

It's helped having the breakout of the mods and scenarios, but it's still awkward to find mods. Cougar_Dk made a start at organizing them, but it's no longer up to date (which is a problem I know I'll have as well).

I'm going through the forum threads and I'm going to try and summarize the mods in a table form. I was going to do this for my own use, but I'm willing to share it. In fact thinking about it, it should be shared some way, just not sure how right now.

In any event, I'm looking at trying to organzie the mods by type of mod:

I'm interested in getting feedback

Right now I was looking at one table for "models" this would include such things as vehicles, units, weapons, but also, buildings, structures, - things I call map placeable objects).

thanks
Rick

The attached zip file is the vehicle - unit - map - tools mod table. It's currently sorted by mod type and modder and date. Any other comments are welcome. I'll also be doing similar one for maps, scenarios and campaigns. I know this will need to be revised after the next patch, but I imagine modders won't stop modding so there will be new stuff to add . Just wanted to get this out for comment before going out of town.
Thanks
Rick
There's a lot more mods out there than i realized.

1) Didint Ben's et al buildings and such get packaged up with the MM itself? Meaning all those great mods --many too-- don't have to be presented again separately for the user. I hope.

2)I can't think of any more catagory columns. But seeing as my (spl) earlier mods were either just XMLs to add to the armouredunit folder or chimera reworkings of stock, maybe a ratings system.

In short a catagory column telling user whether mod is just XML, Phoney model or good model. And whether it is fix like of stock or brand new.

Those can come under the notes/comment column you already have though.
Images should be easier to load at Matrix.

I think most of Ben's work will get distributed with the next patch. But I also imagine he, or Saf, or Someone else will do more ( at least I hope). I know Mraah has some walls he made for me, that won't be in the patch. But actually that's part of what this might help with, I think some of the early mods, were actually incorporated into the first patch - but the only one I can recall was a silo one.

But you are right, the list might not get too large, if Matrix keeps incorporating the community mods into subsequent patches. Which is a good thing.

Those 'oddball' mods were some of what had me scratching my head, and I wondered about a column for tath -ie, if I reskinned a 251 and called it an M3 just to have that model, it's not a very good mod - but it woiuld do until a better came along - but I think that kind of thing probably needs to go into the comment column like you suggested.

What prompted this was that twice in last two weeks I've went through the thread to see if someone had done some vehicle - and that takes time - if I do it once and keep it updated, It might save me time. And it might also help more casual browsers to see what mods are being done. If I can figure out a way to actually show the tables in a post, instead of an attached document it would even be better. - Have to think about that -

Thanks for looking!

I think I'll just do it - if it works out, good, if not - well at least I'll probably remember what's there next time.

First post updated with a sorted list. I sorted by Mod Type. so vehicles are near top of list now. also sorted by date. The zip file contains a pdf. you can open the pdf without dowloading the zip file and the table contains functional hot links to the mod download posts - to make it eaier for folks to find them - Some of them are buried deep in threads.

THre are about 9 pages of mods in this file. I tried to note when stock files were overwritten, but I may not have caught them all.

Any edits or comments are welcome.

I'll be doing similar table for scenarios, maps, and campaigns.

Thanks,
Rick

If you can't attach a pdf, can you attach a zip/rar containing the pdf?

Attachment 1 to first post is now a zip file containing the sorted mod list for equipment, game aids, landscape models.

Attachment in post 1 updated to include Spellirs latest Recon 221 pack.

It's not necessary to download the file to open. you can open the zip and double click on the pdf to open the pdf without leaving the site.

Rick there was a mod once by Stridor that had the small arms; "gun pack" or something.

I was new and really didn't pay attention. But I remember the thread where the new vividly textured guns were on the ground laying around.

Does anyone remember what I mean? I'm pretty sure it was Stridor's.

- I vaguely recall that. He had a luger and some others if I recall I didn't see it when I went through things. I'll check in the maps section though - he had some "combat litter" or something like that for some of those things

If I find it i'll add it here and let you know.

Thanks

spellir,

I think you're referring to the German gun pack by Stridor. It's in the mod summary, but so you don't have to look - I copied the link here:

fb.asp?m=1804084

I think that's what you were referring to.

Thanks

That's it.

I looked in the mod list but I didn't see it. I could have skipped a page as scrolled the PDF fast.

Thanks Rick.

No problem - besides, it reminded me of a couple of mods I need to reload after doing a clean install.

Thanks

This thread should be a sticky replacing the obsolete one stickied by Cougar above.
