Something Fun I Have Discovered.....

Post by Redleg »

I am playing a lot of battles without any off-board artillery assets for myself and very limited for the German. Instead, I am giving both sides 2-3 sections of 75-76mm field guns (they move) and 2-3 sections of the 50mm mortars. The AI seems to handle these well and I am having a very good time with them. The reason I like them is that they cannot reach nearly entirely across the map. But they do reach a good, long distance.

In the 1942 era, the Field Guns and 50mm mortars can bring thunder on light tanks and armored cars. They seem to be quite good against infantry and fire on the same turn. If they get a shot at the rear quarter of a medium tank, they are also a threat. Their limited but effective mobility increases their effectiveness.

The sharp reduction in German smoke delivered via off-board artillery increases the value of the German smoke grenades. This is a small advantage, since I have no off-board artillery at all, that helps the AI.

For what its worth.

Good advice. I general if I have arty, it falls harmlessly in the wrong place. The enemy however, seems to have a knack for finding me even with Soviet rockets [X(]
