question about coax mg

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

question about coax mg

Post by gunny »

I only noticed the armoured cars firing coax and main gun. At what point do the tanks use mg? If i'm hamering at another tank at 300m or less why not mix it with 7.92 for suppression. I see the command for coax gun when targeting but is this an either or with the main gun.

Speaking realistically the main gun and coax have different ballistics. Besides having to switch something in the turret to use either the gunner has to change his targeting if he wants to hit the same spot. There would be a little delay in switching and he probably wouldn't want to take the main gun off target once he was hitting.

I wasn't positive on not using the main gun and co-ax together (at least over 500m) so I emailed the question to someone who had real experience.  This is an exerpt from their reply:
I did a lot of work with the NATO 105mm in the Leopard, but most of my career was with the Cougar, which mounted a British Scorpion 76mm turret and was as close to WWII gunnery as you'll ever get.  No way would you ever do the two together.
The ranging MG concept is a different concept and British tanks (Centurion and Chieftan) which used it used a .50 cal weapon with a very flat trajectory compared to 7.62mm MG bullets.

I would be nicer to have the hull MG engage a different target at the same time. But of course that's more effort.

And more realistic.
