Campaign

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

Do you have to win the first battle of the Campaign to proceed. I've had 2 maginal losses and always return to the start.

Stick at it!  It took me five tries to win the first German scenario.  The lack of machine guns and on board mortars make the AT guns a real hassle.  I eventually got a minor victory by taking as many tanks as possible and only attacking the the two side victory flags.  The enemy forces in the centre then moved to attack and got shot up giving me the victory.

So are the single missions the exact same missions that are in the campaign? Or are they different?

They are the same basic missions with the exception of the two Skirmish scenarios, which are not in the campaigns. However, when fought as set battles the experience and forces are set to the scenario defaults for each unit, whereas in the campaign you'll encounter the scenario with your force in whatever shape it ended the previous scenario in.
