Scenarios

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Hmmm I was just thinking about that one.[X(]

We met up with Hans at Losheimergraben during our last tour - We had lunch in a cafe in Schoppen where I believe he sold that book to Pieter Schouten (aka Tukker), one of our designers.

I have most of his other Bulge books, but not that one. We shall see what we can do.

That would be very cool... It seems the world is sometimes smaller than we think.
Anyhow since the game will get a complete editor, anything is possible I guess. Even after it is released.

Any update on the map editor that will ship with BFTB? I am wondering if it will be any easier to work with.

We have not made any significant changes to the MapMaker user interface. What did you find difficult?

Nothing which is a show stopper. I was hoping for a way to import a topo map as the base map. Then "draw" game related detail on layers on the map. It looked like you where moving towards a topo quality maps. The game style fits so sweet with a more historic topo map background.

Well in fact we scan the historical topographical maps and import these as an underlay. But we use this to then trace the layers. We currently do not have the ability to display this underlay in the game. Interesting idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Using a real topo map, would IMHO bring a new historical gaming dimension to genre. I assumed you did some type of tracing, due to the levels of accuracy I have seen. Is the scanning & tracing in HTTR possible for a user such as myself? I wish for my maps to be historically accurate.

If you have a topo in .bmp format, you can import it into the Mapmaker and trace right over it. The Map Maker manual that comes with HTTR explains it pretty well.

The Mapmaker does come with some new editing tools that allow you to easily select an entity and put it in another layer. This came in handy when we changed the road class of several roads.

Do you have any ideas where I can get accurate topo maps of France 1944? I have been collecting them for years. Just wanted to ensure I am not overlooking a prime map! :)

The best I can do for free is 1:250000 1959 military series GSGS maps of France (and other countries.)

maps

To get the 1:50000 or even the 1:100000 will require expenditure of resources, and I'm not sure of the best place to find them.

I have been spending resources for years trying to get "the maps" of choice. I am currently tracking down some maps from a personal collection in another state. Found it after days of renewed searching on the net. I am really enjoying the map editor, just have to find the right map that combines the detail that I am seeking. I may have another lead on some 1/12,500 maps that are not so high priced.

I still can’t convince myself to pay for these: http://www.omnimap.com/catalog/int/france/64-5679.htm  Price is high plus they don’t have any in digital format. Thus I will need to spend more money to put them into a workable form. Since these exist, I am of belief that there are many others out there some where. The question is where. More digging, researching and calling.  Maybe someone will buy some and convert them to digital for the game! :) .
