Spectacular AI!

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Spectacular AI!

Post by cmill1978 »

I have now had the pleasure of playing through the tutorial as both the allies and the axis. It took me several tries as the allies to get a decisive victory, but I was eventually able to keep the objectives and hold St. Vith.

Things became more interesting as the axis. Although I completed the scenario with a marginal defeat, I had a very fun yet challenging time against the allied AI. I thought I was doing pretty well as I was able to delay the allied advance somewhat successfully.

When Kampfgruppe Peiper arrived in St. Vith I was somewhat disappointed by the failed allied assault from the south road. Using Kampfgruppe Peiper, I counterattacked the allied FUP and began to push the allied forces back. At this point I felt a little let down by the AI. However, once I had fully engaged the allied forces to the south, a finger of allied tank and supporting units began to thrust into the east outskirts of St. Vith from the road that emerges from the woods! I was completely blown away as the allied surprise attack crushed my sparse defenders in St. Vith. I attempted to recall Kampfgruppe Peiper back to St. Vith but they were too busy fighting allied forces to the south to make it back in time. The scenario ended with St. Vith being denied and resulted in a marginal defeat for the axis.

Purely awesome! I will be getting many, many hours of enjoyment from this game. Thanks Panther for this gem of a game!

Well, I pulled off a draw as the axis!

Instead of attacking out of St. Vith, I defended with Kampfgruppe Peiper and waited for the inevitable allied assault. I did detach the SS Pz 501 made attacks of opportunity against weak points in the allied line. Overall, I eliminated a large number of allied units. Very fun :)
