Wish List

Post by Arjuna »

If you would like to see a modification to an existing feature of the game or you would like to see a new feature added, then here is the place to post.

Before we get going on this, let me say that our policy is to fix bugs in patches to existing games but to leave new features for new games in the series. We have a wish list we maintain that's quite long. We regularly review it and shuffle items up and down the list as perceptions of priority change. For each new game we will add at least one "BIGGY" new feature, plus as many minor new features as time permits.

Coordinated attacks. Be able to tell group A to attack at 12:00 from one direction and group B to attack at 12:15 from another direction.

Better system for Air Strikes and display of them. We should be able to know when aircraft are "supposed to be" in the area (have a airstrikes tab showing this information such as which squadrons are operating in the scenerio), and when they are should be shown by a icon on the map. Would be nice if you could also call in an airstrike. I do not know if this is historically accurate, and if it is not please disregard.

1.) Mousewheel zoom - I find this ESSENTIAL UI feature, the one that is easy to implement and wonder how come you don't have it listed anywehere?

2.) Background ruble - steady rumble of distant battlefield sounds, gunfire, occasional aircraft overflys and such. This is not a biggie, but could help set the proper atmosphere.

One item Dave (Arjuna) left off the Patch changes!

UI - Mouse wheel Zoom (due to time constraints only for Windows NT4, 2000, XP).

That's already what you can do in game : when an airstrike is available, you can call it and designate a point to attack. What you cannot do is change the number of airstrikes allocated to you and add some more.
If I'm not mistaken, when the airstrike is said to be available, planes are already flying to your area. You have to designate the target (call it), otherwise, they'll fly back after a while.

But I'm all for a less abstract representation, as proposed, with planes icons flying accross the map to the objective. And flying back. Not that the player would have more control though.

Okay I agree with what you say here, but at a minimum it would be nice to have an "Airstrikes Tab" showing how many and rough time estimates of when they will be available based on last known intelligence that would have been available when the orders for the scenerio were given. I also like the idea of counters representing the aircraft, I think it adds to the feel of seeing the game from an "overview" perspective. The only issue with this I can see is that the game is written to display the highest ranking counter unless you select a lower one, so something would have to be done to keep the air counters on top. Would even be nicer if airstrikes and aircraft could be redone and given control to us. We could then manage our own aircraft and using a set of rules decide when and how many airstrikes on our own. This would be a major change and would require a whole new game though.

I would like:

1. Time-set orders: Attack and start of move. [:)]

2. OOB (preferable one that change if you reasign units). This is more a must than a wish. Trying to look through the mess of units is sometimes so tiresome you want to quit the game altogether. [:-]

3. AAR with losses/unit. All statistical info is welcome. A nice feature would be if the game saved the situation every 3 hours and so, and if you could then step through the stages and see what the enemy where up to. [:'(]

4. Option to part the "ping" sound from weapons. I like playing on slowest, have the computer working in the background and only occasionly check how things are going. Ping is good to warn me of something afoot, but the guns drive my OKF (Oberkommando die Frau) nuts, so I have to run it completely silent as it is now. [:@]

5. Zoom with wheel. [:)]

If only I had the strength of character to play it in background. I have to obsessively watch it at all times even though, having given orders, I can do nothing to change what my sub-commanders are doing! [;)]
I too have the OKF problem. They just don't get it, do they?

Estab List sortet out:
I.E. HQ´s From Army down to Company
Then Large Formations down to Sections
and Finaly all the Support Formations

Also Maybe to Change and Alter the Estabs (I.E. give an Inf. Comp. some Different ATG´s and maybe even "Captured" Equipment)

2nd
Grand Campaign
Example: U have 3 Maps like in HTTR u start playing Map 1 and get 30th Corps on start Position now if u move it quick to the zone for deliver on map 2 u get these elements of the 30th corps in this condition and time like u played on map 1. So be quick on Map 1 and u get the 30th early on map 2, but push to hard and you get it early but in very bad shape :)

If it ever gets to a 'proper' campaign scenario of some substantial duration, I'd like to be able to change formation commanders - assuming that their command skills have some bearing on the gameplay of course. I'm attempting to get a 'decisive victory' (with AAR) in the 'Mook Right Hook' scenario and would dearly love to have some of my subordinate commanders 'relieved' for the tardiness in obeying my orders[:D].

Generally, anything you can do to take advantage of larger monitors and larger resolutoins would be more than welcome.

(1) the map scaling should be more fine grained. I have two PCs (laptop and desktop) and both have pretty good resolution (1280*1024 and 1400*1280 or something) which is pretty common in PCs purchased in the past 2 years. On either one, there is no setting that lets me see the entire map comfortably. Either the map is a fair bit smaller than the display window and a lot of space is wasted (and units are crushed together) or, on the next step down, the map is too big to fit in the display window and I have to start scrolling around.

(2) on larger resolutions, there is a lot of unused space on the bottom half of the 'information pane' on the left side. Why not make it resize to the window size so we can see more information there?

Thanks much!

This is due to the fact that we are still supporting a min screen size of 800 x 600. For our next game ( BFTB ) we will be using a min of 1024 x 768 and using that extra real estate on the side bar to display more info. However, on monitors larger than this you will still get some unused area.

Two things sometime in the future (1 has been mentioned above)

1) markers left on-map showing location of arty/airstrikes (maybe a filter box on the view tab to show and hide them?).

2) Coordinated attacks. Allowing the setup of individual regiments to commence their attack at a specified time, thereby allowing the player to set up an attack from multiple regiments to hit the same target at the same time.

I should really wait for the poll since I offer little new, anyway, in priority order:

1. mouse wheel zoom.

2. linked scenarios (doesn't have to be the campaign).

3. variably sized unit icons that can both show unit size and conform to the terrain they occupy.
