Another needed change

Post by Koniev »

I currently have 2 COE units in San Francisco. I also have, in port, 4 West Point transports. They hold 250 and are ideal for transporting Engineers and Seabees because they're fast.

Unfortunately, all 4 transports are in one group.

I'd like the ability to split AP, APA and MCS ship units up. The only way I know how to do it now is to put all but one WP in the pool, creat a TF with the remaining one, make sure all other types of transports are assigned to a TF and then use Get Transport.

A very good point. The use of Get Transport is usually considered unfair play, since it "teleports" ships. I suppose the same thing could be done with an editor, but the same objection applies.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I don't object to use of Get Transport.

Several years ago I did an analysis of the SSI version and found MCS tonnage under represented from what IJ actually had. The routine convoy system clearly moves supplies and fuel faster than can be done with manually created TFs. Combined, these facts tell me the function is abstracted. It is my belief that while Matrix may have increased the number of MCS it is still well below the actual.

APs may be a different matter and may not be under represented. I don't know.

I don't have a realistic way of doing similar calculations for Allies.

Assuming the AP count matches reality... and I don't know whther it does... the grouping of ships into units limits trasnport ability, as stated in the original post here. There also appears to be some limitations concerning APs on how far they will be moved when using the Get Transport command.

There's a disincentive to use Get Transport because it consumes Prep Points. Whle realism may be compromised, since its available to both sides, there is no advantage or disadvantage created.
