Q about aircraft upgrades in PBEM

The documentation says that the feature that asks players if they want to upgrade is disabled, so players have to go to the airgroup and manually upgrade. Does this affect the out of category upgrades too?

What I mean is the game offering an upgrade for the Vildebeast torpedo bomber to a tac bomber, offering an upgrade for the Martin 139 to the B25 (moving the airgropus from the British tac bomber selections to US Army selections) and the Wellington to the B24. In PBEM does the game force these upgrades or not do them. Thank you!
