Thank you very much for releasing this great game for free

Post by Gorgut »

Greetings from an noob-ToS-Player

Two months ago I stumbled upon an anouncement on a german computermagazin webside, that ToS is released as Freeware. After downloading and getting used to the game interface, I realised, that this is a game of strategic warefare with great depth and challenging ai. OK the graphics are old-school, the colours and presentation of the menus and the bot-apperance could be much more pretty.

But the strategic and rpg part. It resembles the first time playing Jagged Alliance 2. Learning how to use the weapons effectivly, and which weapons do complement on one... Knocking one Enemy with the BLR, following with a few AC 4s from afar and than raining death from multitude LRMs makes ones day. For my copy of JA i paid 1 Euro and therefore stated that playing JA is the cheapest hobby on earth. And you gave this wonderful game for free. [&o] Sorry, that I never heard before of it.

Not quite shure how to use the NB. Everytime, when i hit I get one of the two messages "...hit..." or "...was not affected" or the like comes up . Never got the enemy to loose one hitpoint. Do you need a called shot for the NB to work? Or are the ranks involved?

Apropos ranks, a strange thing happend. One of my jocks Katharina (the Great) earned a rank even she had not the xp for it. Is it a bug? Or because of that she was on the killing spree in the last game? Perhaps I should not pounder the enemy jocks to death, but I feel unsuffiant, if they jump out of there titans before i can kill them. But with just a few parts of the Titan remaining before one jock manages the final shot to the head or torso the salvage is real low.

Here the stats of my Business Maid (for a girl, she is a real impressive stature) for the ones interested followed by the stats of her killing tool. (So less Titans with little requirements for beginners in the database)

Mostly she accompanies the Missile Boat and the Plasma Gunner for Short Range assistence, when needed (such a great game, one time three small "jumpers" appeared directly beside my lr-troops and closed the gap of one/two hex really fast. With altogether 5 SLs and 2 PGs and 2 LRM6 I had a hard time keeping alive. I had a celebration when the biggest (70t)of these bastards died in the burning wood in a manifold of ammunition explosions.[:D] Thank God the ai-stragglers draw some fire and helped me defending)

Thank you for the thrilling last two months and sorry for mixing different topics. Now I must convince my friend of this game. I hope he finds it not too complicated. Gets some time to get used to, but is rewarding. Perhaps I find a way to improve the apperance of the bots. Just altering tos04-15.tga may work. So many things to do ...

Feel free to move this thread to the one, where Larkin in wondering if anyone is playing ToS

Nope, no called shots with the NB. You can check how it works in the guide available in one of the sticky threads of this forum - and I believe it was released as a pdf with the free game.
You were probably firing it at an android.

One of my jocks Katharina (the Great) earned a rank even she had not the xp for it. Is it a bug?

Nope, it's a hat trick  [;)]  Also explained in the guide, with 3 kills in a single battle you get to go up in rank.

But with just a few parts of the Titan remaining before one jock manages the final shot to the head or torso the salvage is real low.

Yep, if you want to make money, you should try to call shots to the legs or head.

Thanks for your answer Iceman. Yes, the guide is included alongside the description of the Turn System Quick Guide and a guide for the editor. I only read it once, so I forgot that part.

And called shots to the head... With a weapon skill of 85 my jocks must get very near to the opponent to have a chance of more than 40 %... and the ac20 of him does not nead a called shot to stamp my subordinate to the ground. But it is possible to withstand even a Bonecrusher with the right bot. No ECM is the softspot of this build.[:D]

To not mix up more topics I post my "Assault"-Titan (Its a heavy, but for assaulting) in the Titan Arena, where I found valuable information about titan designs from previous threads. In my last game this afternoon it managed to lay a Bonecrusher (OK, it was not alone). Man, was I shocked, when I heard the sound of the ac 20 four times in a row...

The disclaimer about using other people's work is kind of funny, seeing that most info there is stolen from either the manual or the guide...

[:-]

That person should be reported.

Thank you for the link Larkin, but Iceman is right, very few additional information besides the content of the guide.

By the way: nice forum despite the low traffic. Have a nice week.
