Stacks can work against the AI. Against a player its definatly a no no. Engine explosions are really nasty.

Finally got the game yesterday, no thanks to CompUSA. They were still "processing" my order four days after I placed it. In fairness they did say 3-6 day delivery but they couldn't even tell me when it was going to ship. So I cancelled and ordered with Chips & Bits. They shipped it the same day and it arrived the next day (thumbs up to UPS too for overnight delivery when I only payed for second day!).

Went through the tutorial last night. Thought it took about an hour but when I finished it had been 2.5 hours! Very absorbing! The tutorial goes through the important game mechanics in an easy to follow format. I did get confused on the interface a bit while trying to stand up after falling. Kept falling again thinking I was putting attacks on call when I was actually cancelling my stand up orders. Duh. Now if only I can find where Iceman posted his updated Quick Guide? [&:]

Edit - Found Iceman's guides the the Map Room.

Not sure I followed call shots either as nothing special appeared to happen when I clicked on the cross hairs, chose a head shot, and then fired. Maybe my jock missed.

After the tutorial I didn't see where to start a campaign, but only looked briefly. Do you guys recommend downloading the user made Core campaign as a good starting point? Thought I read that somewhere.

Played around a bit in the factory too of course. Feels like there is an overwhelming amount that goes into building one of those beasts. I could just d/l the unofficial database but that would take away half the fun of the game. Guess I'll learn good from bad designs the old fashioned way, by dying in the process!

Hats off to everyone involved with the game. Looks like great fun. [8D]

Guide is here.

Install patch v1.2 before playing. If I remember it right Deep Core campaign is included since v1.1. Therefore you shouldn't download it from other sources. To start a campaign you have to load team1 from file. Then select map -> campaign.

If you have grabbed the games mechanics you can skip Deep Core. Its only for total newbs [;)]

Got the patch before the game! Installed it without incident.

Sounds like I can skip Deep Core then as I'm reasonabley comfortable with the mechanics from playing the tutorial.

Probably missed and you have message detail set to high instead of max - high skips miss messages. The sprite will also tell you if you've hit or missed.

Yes, messages are set to high. Will set to max while learning.

This may be in the manual but can a call shot miss the target body area but hit somewhere else, even another titan in the hex, or if it misses is it always a complete miss? Thanks.

Edit - Found a partial answer in the guide. A called shot can hit another part of the target Titan. Not sure about the rest of the question.

Another rookie question that just came up related to this. If a shot (not necessarily a call shot) misses a target in a hex, but has the range to hit other hexes further away, is the full range used to see if it hits something further along the path or not? Thanks.

I would suggest going ahead and download the 'extended' titan database or get the 'unoffical' titan database from Iceman. There are some basic 'fixes' made in both that can be pretty substancial, especially in reguard to heat with recons in core terrian. But even with the original database everything will be 'balanced' since both side use the same titans. [:)]

Missed shots.

Missle weapons: can hit other titans in the same hex as the intended target. They can also start reducing cover and in the case of NMs ignite burnable cover.

Cannons: A miss is a miss

Energy weapons: With respect to other titans: a miss is a miss. Most energy weapons (not EMP or NB) can accidentally ignite burnable cover in the intended targets hex, these weapons can also accidentally create steam in water/polar terrians in the original targets hex.

CC weapons: a miss is a miss.

Once you get a good feel for the game you can try the Savannah Campaign and/or once you reach green rank you can try out the just released campaign that came with the 1.2 patch, 'Rebel Hunter' by another forum member.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will play a few more random battles to learn the rules a bit better and then try one of those campaigns.

Elmo3 .. you get to the campaigns by first selecting your team, then opening the Map dialogue .. the Campaign option is towards the bottom of the box. Deep Core's quite useful .. though it may seem a bit easy in the first maps.
