Commands Help Please

Post by Flash »

OK, sitting down, i've got a few questions.....

I've started playing the game on Friday, only played solitary random maps so far.

I'm confused why I have to enter wait->time->20 secs twice before it will action, the same for every wait command, even the 'x' shortcut?

Can I stack multiple actions, such as run forward, twist right, is so how?

My scan time is very slow, if I set a scan, then select another command and do the wait on etc twice it doesn't scan (cf previous question)

How do I interrupt a command, I set automove started moving and then spotted and enemy but couldn't stop the move?

Why does automove sometimes complete the entire move and other times stop and wait for prompting with wait on again?

Why do I keep getting my arse kicked!!

I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions, so thanks for any help guys and gals

Ok, first off, did you play the tutorial? Did you patch the game to 1.2.1?

You don't have to enter wait commands twice. Read the Turn System Quick Guide that is attached in this forum somewhere (in a sticky thread in the main forum and a cleaned up version in a bundle of guides in the Titan's Map Room subforum IIRC).

You can't stack multiple actions, but you can use automove in the move mode to automatically move to a hex in LoS. Should only be used when not engaged though, and uses run as default move mode. Check the manual for more details.

Scan, if you're setting wait twice, you're doing something wrong. When you set attack mode to something (like scan), you can't give any other attack mode command until that one is finished, or it will not complete.

Interrupting commands can be done by hitting F3, and then choosing which mode to break. You can break automove immediately (probably with a skill check, for breaking a run), or choose to end the current move and then cancel automove. A popup will ask you what to do.

As for your arse, well, there may be a number of reasons. There used to be a thread in this forum with many tips about game play, not sure if it's still around. You can try to find it.
Most frequent tips are don't fire your weapons on the move, use terrain to your advantage, use concentrated fire, wait for your target to be still, light his cover, disable your opponents carefully not to cause engine explosions, watch your heat, choose your titans to match your jocks' skills. Check what weapons do, some have special effects, and advantages and disadvantages - F1 in the factory, unofficial guide.

Cheers Thorgrim,

Yep played the tutorial twice, got the hang of the basics enough to get a jock, a titan and try some fights. Still learning the complexities of walking about, where you have to make skill checks since I envariably fall over! lol

When I say twice, I'll give an example... fire weapons at Titan, press 'x' or long route thru wait-> etc and the box on the bottom right says "Something like wait xx seconds on recycle" unless I press 'x' again it doesn't action the command?

What skill reduces my time it takes to scan?

And finally why do I have to work

All in all though I can see me spending a lot of time with this game, I haven't even considered looking at mech design yet, still buying off the shelf stuff!!

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of the turn system here. Please carefully read the sticky turn system quick guide thread. First 'x' is to set ATTACK MODE to 'wait on recycle'. Afterwards you are in MOVE MODE !!! Therefore second 'x' sets it to 'wait on recycle' too.

Guess which skill reduces scan time .... Yep, its the scanner skill. A better scanner device in your titan will help big times too.

Yep, definately a misunderstanding of the 'turn system(s)'

There are two (almost) completely independent command modes. One, the attack mode, handles all your attacks and electronics. The other, the move mode, handles your movement. When you give an attack order in the attack mode, the attack mode will not become active agian until the current attack command is completed (assuming it isn't interuptted by a call attack command or the use of the F3 key). The move mode works the same way, if you tell your titan to run to the next hex, your move mode will not become active agian until that move is completed.

When your pressing 'x' twice, the 1st 'x' is telling your attack mode to wait on next recycled weapon; the second 'x' is telling your move mode to wait on next recycled weapon. What you're probably wanting to do is hit 'x' for your attack mode, then 'wait on call' for your move mode. That way the move mode will not become active agian UNTIL you use the 'call move' command from the attack mode menu.

It's simpler then it sounds, and very intutive... BUT it require one of those 'lightbulb over the head' flashes of insight. After reading the turn guide, give it another try or three. Trust me the 'lightbulb' will come on.[:)]
