My bunch of newbie enquire

Post by IKerensky »

AS always when I start a new game .. ven if it was not all that news as I was a fervent adept of MEchforce on my Amiga ( great game and great computer ).

The 3rd jocks is supposed to have a bonus in DC , right ? my 3rd jock was an android which start with a blatant 001 !!! in DC

No way to stop creation of a jock and dont lose the bucks ?

About Mech ( oups Titan ) creation:

- How to choose the engine ? any good formula ? I just create a nice HtH Light mech jsut to learn in battle that I cant use my Shield 5 more than 1 sec (
- About the Black Ray, did the 50% is a bonus or a malus ? I am just not sure, the way I see it it is a Make-the-ennemy-Titan-Make-his-test ray.
- Meson looks fine, but only 3 dam is really really bad, are they all that much efficient ?
- Choosing the armor to put o is really really hard, no ? I always finish with a lot of Vicenium, a bit of Duralloy and sometimes a bit of Titanium in the head.
- When conceiving a new chassis, they are ranked from slowest to fastest ?

And my 2 finals words:

- When piloting an Chainsaw Light Titan, dont forget to raise EW, 21 seconds to lock your next target can really , really cripple your life ( especially when the next target is also a 70t with dualchainsaw ).

- Tesla look fine, AC20 take my heart away. But dont forget about the other calibers. Gauss is really really nice and didn't explode, and the 7 caliber AC is a weapon of choice for middle range fight.

You got me. You using version 1.4? That's the only one I know to have 3rd jock DCS skill raised.

Nope, not that I know of. There is one way though to recoup your money though, but I'm not going to say just yet.

If you look in the manual you will see how PUs are used. Just because I know these questions will be posted again, I'll give you a quick rundown. Engines produce PUs which are needed for movement, energy weapons and certain electronics. If you look at the pinboard printout, it gives you a rating for your power usage based on as follows.

2 PUs for movement
1 PU for heat reg
1 PU for scanner
1 PU for battle computer
1 PU for E.C.M.
1 PU for Jump Ports
1-4 PUs for shield
1-3 PUs for weapons

However, keep in mind that running and dodging take 3 PUs! If you try to cram a shield 5 onto a light titan, you're going to need at least an [Engine 5] (3+3+1+1+1) (assuming heat reg, scanner and BC) if you want to use it while running.

- About the Black Ray, did the 50% is a bonus or a malus ? I am just not sure, the way I see it it is a Make-the-ennemy-Titan-Make-his-test ray.

Not especially sure of the mechanics of this one, but the BRG causes a 50% further penalty in the opponents skill check level.

- Meson looks fine, but only 3 dam is really really bad, are they all that much efficient ?

Mesons do 2 external + 2 internal or 3 external + 3 internal per shot. So you're really getting 4 or 6 damage. Also, they have a much higher chance of damaging internal systems. Ever been shot full of mesons to have your engine and heat reg crippled without a D.C.S. to repair? Nasty.

- Choosing the armor to put o is really really hard, no ? I always finish with a lot of Vicenium, a bit of Duralloy and sometimes a bit of Titanium in the head.

Armor can be tricky. I'm putting together a titan design guide with general outlines. However, that's not the answer you're looking for. Vicenium is good for its low weight, and not affecting heat dissapation. Dullaroy's good if you're low on slots. And Dullaroy works better than Titanium in the head. Try it out, you'll see you get more APs in the head with Dullaroy than with Titanium. Millenia's really for helping your heat reg out.

- When conceiving a new chassis, they are ranked from slowest to fastest ?

Yes. You should see the BMT (base movement time) on the right side. The smaller the number, the faster it is.

I read the manual and the guide, but still found the engine calculation a bit creepy, thanks for your enlightment

Bug confirmed. The third jock gets an increase in defensive instead of damage control. I fixed this but it made it back into the sources
